Have been lurking for a while and have now discovered that I need some help from other forum members. Last week I bought an 1858 (1863) Remington 44 ca. made by E.N. Santa Barbara in Spain. She is a beautiful revolver and fits my hand almost as well as my Colt Navy.

Here are a couple of photos of her:

Have not found much information online or at the library about this Marque. I have noticed some other forum members that have the same revolver and hope that they might have some answers or advise.

My questions are:

1. Since Santa Barbara no longer makes this revolver, which current manufactuer is best to use for replacement springs and other spare parts?

2. Which replacement cylinders fit best? The current cylinder has some nice engraving on it and I would like to not use it as a primary cylinder.

3. Which nipple works best and what size/thread count. The current nipples/cones are a bit mushroomed and need replacing.

Thanks in advance and I hope to report back once I have taken the ole girl to the range.

Regards,
Jamie

Cones are TRM 5014SS (Short) Thunder Ridge Muzzleloading. Parts mostly would have to be made or adapted to fit and no one sells these parts and the Revs have not been made for 20 years in the Santa Barbra Arsenal, Spain.
Email me for more details... Smokin_Gun @att.net

Thunder Ridge's part number 5014S is the metric size M6x0.75 thread; it's probably the most common nipple thread. The equivalent Treso nipple part number is 11-50-10, or PIR-A on the Track of the Wolf web site.

Nice real nice ..I want one ..
Smokin I didn`t know you had one of them Spanish Remmies too . A friend of mine has one , but it ain`t that purdy ...just a plain jane .

A very nice gentleman from Spain named Octogonal responded to a similar request for information about Santa Barbara revolvers and he posted the manual and a possible source of "pieces" [parts] in Spain that I've listed.

He said:

I only know an armory (in Spain) that still has some pieces, but they are expensive, email: [email protected]. The proprietor is very kind but I don't know if he will know English, if you write him in Spanish will be better.

Click on the thumbnail and then again on the picture to see an expanded view of the manual. These are reduced to 50% of their original size.

Thanks everyone for the information on the Santa Barbara Remington. Those manuals are great btw. I hope "Octogonal" is still around - I woud be also interested to hear from "Missoura Dan" and how his SB Remington is performing and holding up or any others that have this Marque of Remington in their stable. I guess I wil have to hone my smithing skills since it looks like replacement parts will have to be made and fitted from other manufacturers.

I hope to get back with my own range report in the next week - once I am over this nice cold the wife gave me.

Regards,
Jamie

wow that is a very nice looking revolver. looks like they spent a long time doing the engraving on that. very nice

Thanks for the compliment Scrat. From my untrained eye, the engraving looks to be hand done and not laser cut. I suppose the age of the revolver (1970's) precludes laser engraving. Now, if I can only skake off this summer cold, I can take her to the range and get properly introduced;).

Can anyone suggest some spare parts, and which manufacturer, I should have on hand (springs,etc.). The SB looks to be very robust, with a good strong mainspring...even after backing out the adjusting screw a bit.

Jamie
