Just got back from Gander Mountain and I noticed there were no bushmasters or other AR type rifles (they did have an M1928 replica though) so I ask the guy behind the desk why they were not there and he said "new policy we keep them in the back room" I said ok and then continued browsing. So is Gander Mountain going PC with what they sell or is it more for security reasons (like what I think)?

Don't know my Gander Mountain (in Greensboro) has at least 4 maybe 5 sitting out. Of course they might keep them up to keep down on the amount of playing people does with them. Take a outward normal (quitely browsing) person and show them a EBR and suddenly they want to sweep everyone with it.

They just sent me a sale paper advertizing a Bushmaster m-4 (not in the Madsion, Wis location). That was a FIRST as far as I ever noted.

They called it a 'tactical/sporter'. Comes with a 30rd mag. I was getting ready to say 'woo-hoo' Gander!

Remember, they made their bones selling hi-cap ruger mags and such back in the day.

Peoria IL Gander has a whole rack of them. Last time I was in they even had M1A's and a couple of Garands . . of course they were REALLY proud of them. :)

My local GM moved them behidn the firearms counter. When I asked why they said that they were some of the most handled guns in the store and they kept getting dropped by customers!

I have seen an absurd amount of people asked to leave the firearms department of the Gander Mountain that I usually go to for just that reason.

It seems that the only guns people are tempted to pick up and "play with" at gander are the ARs, tacticool shotguns, m1as, mini 14s, and beretta carbines.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with being politically correct. Its most likely because they dont want people damaging expensive merchandise.

I think I phrased my original post wrong you see I did know they had AR's there (I am intending on getting a Bushmaster there) but when I went in today I noticed they were not there and hence my post, sorry if I threw you for a loop.

I was in Gander Mt today. Looking at Rem 710, 770. They had two ARs in (public) area and 3 in a glass case (locked I assume) and two others behind counter. I saw a batch of mini 14 (4-5) and one mini 30. I only saw one M-1
They gent in gun counter was VERY knowledgeable. :) :)

Last time I went to my local Gander Mountain they had one AR-15 out.

Across the street at Sportsman's Warehouse they had at least half a dozen Ar-15s, a couple AR-10s, three or four Thompson SMG look-alikes, and four or five M-1As of various setups (guy behind the counter tried to get me interested in the SOCOM). Granted, at SW they are behind the counter, but I have had no trouble getting to see what I wanted to in a timely fashion.

Oh, and they always have a .50 BMG of some sort out on the counter.

And I like the prices a little better at SW.
