My father's looking for a holster for his new compact type M Beretta. I suugested leather but no idea if he'll pay that much. I want something for him that will protect the gun finish and provide comfort to him while wearing it. Any good holsters out there that fit the bill for price and protection?

I agree that leather is the way to go ... I use Kramer horsehide leather exclusively but it ain't cheap, that's for sure.

Would you be able to convince your dad to spring for a quality holster? I am always amazed at people who spend $600 on a gun but then stick it in a $20 holster and flimsy belt and expect top-notch performance. IMHO the belt and holster are almost as important as the gun itself. You could let your dad try your leather rig ... sometimes trying out a quality product is enough to make the sale. :)

If not, I would recommend Fobus holsters. They seem to be very cheap (bought one for $15 in my area at a gunshow) and they hold up rather well, although I've heard that some of the riveting used is suspect. But you get what you pay for, etc. I do not know whether they make one for the compact Beretta.

My Dad didn't pay for his gun -- not $600 anyway. I gave him my new compact because he liked it and I wanted him to have a good gun. I'll check around and ask him what he's looking to spend. It'd just be for home and the range. Thanks.

Bianci makes some nice inexpensive leather holsters that should work well for the compact Beretta. I've got a couple that I bought for one pistol that ended up fitting a couple other pistols quite well.

If he's an older guy then he probably wouldn't mind wearing the fashion nightmare that is the fanny pack. :D Really though...that's the most comfortable way I can think of aside from just any OWB on strongside belt. Ask him if he's interested in that. If he typically wears a covering garment you could go for a Bianchi pancake holster. If you want to go REALLY cheap there's always Uncle Mike's.
