Ed Brown Memory Grove Grip Saftey 1911

I'm thinking of installing the Ed Brown Memory Grove Grip Saftey on my 2 Kimber TLE II 1911's and was looking for some opinions.

What's a fair installation charge for a gunsmith to do this?

I have 2 similiar "memory" grip safeties on M1911s and can't really notice any difference from standard beavertail grip safeties.


I've been trained to automatically grip as high as possible using the thumb safety as my index and supporting hand pushed as far as possible into the 'crook' of my strongside thumb. I've never been able to 'feel' the memory groove.


I suggest you go to a gun store and try a couple of pistols with them already installed to see if you can even feel them.

I've had it on my Delta Elite for 15 years or more. Probably close to 20,000 rounds fired with it shooting IPSC over the years. I really like the extra hump when I go to grab the thing from the holster. I can feel it now, I couldn't when I started shooting it.

It's noticeable when I shoot other 1911s especially, I can tell it's not there.

That said, I was never sure why the grooves were there, I just like the hump. I also like it in combination with the humpback MSH, my hand goes right to it's spot and I can feel immediately if I am in the right place or not.

My grip safety is pinned in though so it's there more for the way it feels in my hand than ensuring I do get the grip safety engaged (or disengaged I guess it would be). In the photo you can see how far it sticks out compared to the Razorback, and the Delta is pinned all the way in.... still sticks out a tiny bit further.


I love it. I installed it myself so I don't know what it would cost.

I like mine it beats the heck out of the factory stock one.

Combine large gloved hands with wet weather and it was either go to a different grip safety or pin it which I was not willing to do.

I consider it money well spent.

One of the more distinctive memory grooves found on modern day "custom
shop" firearms is that found on Kimbers Raptor series. I didn't care for it at
all; as I found myself having to adjust my grip after every shot~!

OTOH, my Les Baer TRS is perfect; cosistent griping with each shot.

I like them and had a smith install one with a trigger and hammer and cost was like 70.00 for all 3 installed. Had a buddy get one installed for 25 for grip safety only.

Happen to think that the gun shop I deal with will install for free if you buy the part from them. I also buy alot from them so that may make a difference in the free install but worth checking into
