A j-frame for ANY new shooter, male or female, is a terrible idea. If I had a nickel for every guy who bought his wife a j-frame because of the “size” and “ease of use”, only to have her reject it, I would have Bill Gates coin...
What wrong with a j frame, i cut my teeth on one, was a awesome experience when I was a young lad. Seems like the perfect starter gun to me, or any small frame major manufacturer...your not buying or learning on your final gun you will ever own...just like getting your first bicycle, gonna outgrow it pretty quick.

I decided to carry, and my Wife agreed to as well. We looked at 6-8 single stack 9 s. We agreed we would have a single platform. Our decision was for a Shield 9 mm. Our Daughter has arthritis and can't rack the slide. Listen, evaluate, understand needs and limitations. She wants a Ruger EZ rack. It's coming for her Birthday!

My wife has recently decided that she would like a handgun for personal protection. I have carried ever since moving to a state that believes in the 2nd Amendment, and currently carry a Sig P365 loaded with 10+1 Critical Defense and a second spare mag. I’ve been shooting my whole life, and own many guns including semiautomatic pistols and revolvers so I’m familiar with the pros and cons of each. My specific question is on what would be the better choice for my wife to carry.

I like the idea of a revolver such as a LCR or S&W J frame in .38 special since the manual of arms is so simple and the double action trigger pull adds to safety. My concern is that she’s got small hands and the DA trigger pull may be a bit much for her. She’s fired my Glock 19 at the range and likes that, but I’m not super comfortable that she can operate the slide quickly if needed. I’ve thought of a hammer fired DA/SA

My wife is a 26 year navy vet with one tour in Iraq, she didn't care for the M9 as it was too big for her hands, so we experimented with various pistols and revolvers until she found what she liked. Didn't care for the P238, G43, G23, G17, or any revolvers. Settled on a Wesson Classic bobtail in .45acp. Surprisingly, that's what she carries.
