I'm planning far ahead, but what is involved in changing out the ejector rod on a Smith and Wesson 66-1? I don't even have the pistol yet but when I handled it I noticed the checkering was munged up a little and I want to pristine it up a bit.... well, that and rods are $9 so i figured why not :)

I *did* pick up that they were left hand thread... is there any fitting involved?

There should be no fitting involved.

Put three EMPTY cases in the cylinder to support the ejector, and unscrew the rod with a padded vise, a pair of padded pliers, or an ejector rod tool.

Screw the new rod on snug, then tighten just enough to insure it won't vibrate loose.

Spin the cylinder with the new rod in place, to insure it's straight.
There should be ZERO wobble of the rod.
