Thinking about steppin up to electronic hearing protection, anybody out there have any recommendation? I would like something light and comfortable that I don't have to get a personal loan for.
I have a pair of Silencio Range Safes. They work great but are little bulky. I also have a pair of Peltor Tactical 6s. These are better and are in stereo. They were originally designed for eavesdropping. My model has the neckband so I can wear a hat without crushing it. They are very compact and light.
I had a pair of the Peltor Tactical 6s that went belly-up on me in just a couple of weeks. I did a bit of research at that point, and found that some have found the T6s to be somewhat fragile. I returned them to Midway and paid the difference for a pair of Peltor Tactical 7s that have worked like a charm and totally spoiled me for the times that I can't wear them (prone and scope shooting).
I haven't tried any other brands, so, just my $.02...
My wife bought me a set of Remington R2000's for Christmas. She works for Wallyworld so with the employee discount they were reasonable. They're my first experience with EHP so I'm still geting used to them but they're OK. Several of the folks I shoot IDPA with have them too and are pleased with them. Of course, YMMV
Daniel - No idea! I just put them on prior to leaving for the range one evening, and they were dead. I put in new batteries, cleaned the battery contacts, checked the volume control, turned them on and off several times - nothing.
They had never been dropped or abused in any way that I'm aware of (unless one of my kids got ahold of them when I wasn't there - that's happened before!!! )
Botach Tactical has a behind-the-neck model for $129, which is a very good price (http://www.botachtactical.com/peltac7ster.html), although some folks have had problems with ordering from Botach (not me personally...)
Do a web search using "Peltor Tactical 7" and you'll turn up lots of hits - the prices are ALL OVER the map - from over $300 to the Botach offer above.
whitebear- That is indeed strange. Perhaps you received a complete lemon. I'm glad to hear that the malfunction didn't happen because the stock hit the unit under recoil or something like that. Thanks for the reply.
