After the shooting yesterday that killed 4. I woke up to this email that was forwarded to me.

"As a Mount Airy resident, you know gun crime is a huge issue. I hope you will support our group and our views to keep our community safe. We would love to hear from you as well.

Due to the rise in shootings, and murder in Mount Airy, NC we have started a new grass roots group today named "Take Barneys Bullet". Named after how Andy Griffeth would take Barneys bullet from him to keep him from shooting someone.

We support an outright, 100% ban on any civilian and police ownership of weapons. Citing the second Amendment that states, "A well regulated militia" meaning "Army". We have had police guns used in crimes and stolen as well as civilian guns stolen and used in crimes. All of these guns should be banned, period!

Our first step in "Take Barneys Bullet" is we are seeking an outright BAN on ownership of any Full Metal Jacket ammunition that is designed to penetrate deeper and more lethal then hollowpoints, as well as a ban on any repeating firearm, i.e. bolt action, semi automatic, etc. We know that even the "Bolt-Action" rifles people claim to hunt with are readily able to be converted to automatic fire by simply using a pederson device.

Our next step is outright ban on all guns and ammunition by civilians and law enforcement. If you would like to support our effert, please contact us at our email address.

Thank you,
Take Barneys Bullet supporter"

So what is a good way to reply? I have already wrote to both the canidates for mayor (election is tommorrow) and voiced my support against this group.

Assuming that's a verbatim transcript of the press-release, the originator sounds ill-equipped to mount an effective campaign. Are you sure these people are for real?

That is possibly the most rediculous anti-gun rhetoric that I have ever seen.

And do they really think this will help further their case?...

I bet they'll have fun finding one to use in support of their movement! Ha ha!

I think much of problem is the confusion of terminology. As I gather it, people think of full autos as Gatling guns, semi auto's as a rifle capable of burst firing, and have no idea what a bolt is, or how it actions. Maybe we should all just go back to single shot break action .22 shorts.

Have them mail you some info---then post the address here---requests from all of us will break them after all the postage and printing costs.

It's nice they contacted you, now maybe we can contact them.

Do you have any info on sender, or email address they used?

Hah hah hah hah... I just spit my drink all over the keyboard.

LOL that's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time, thanks for the laugh.

This story doesn't pass the smell test for some reason.....but it was a very entertaining read.

I suspect this is a "dihydrogen monoxide" type false-flag op done by a gunnie with too much time on his hands, hoping to sucker some clueless gun-control advocates into parroting his talking points.

Sort of like if the comic genius behind Gecko45 were to start a "gun-control" group...

Whoever wrote it was an idiot. If you're making this up as a "Mount Airy" joke it's not a very funny way to start off at THR. There are better ways to engage in "activism." And as for the possibility of it being real...slim.

I recommend that you wait and see if anyone reacts to this before spending any more time worryin' about it.
