Sir, as I'm not your constituent I understand you have no duty to respond to me, yet as you are a Republican and I have supported the Republican party financially, I think you at least have some sort of obligation to attend to my views. I'm greatly concerned about this “gun safety” legislation you have apparently come to a “compromise” agreement with your political opponents. In particular the “red flag” part of this legislation. Many of the states that already have “red flag” laws have provisions in their laws that are blatantly and egregiously unconstitutional. As a Senator, and especially as a Conservative, you have a duty to uphold the U.S. Constitution as literally interpreted. Therefore, I must advise you that I'm opposed to any “red flag” Federal model that has provisions for “ex-parte” petititions for Extreme Risk Protection Orders, as such violate the Fourth and Fifth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. I'm also opposed to any such “red flag” laws that allow interested and/or aggrieved parties, such as family members, former romantic interests (aka “boyfriend loophole”) and other non-professional parties to petition for ERPO's. Only non-involved and disinterested parties such as law enforcement and qualified and court-appointed mental health providers should be allowed to petition for ERPO's. Though I do appreciate your opposition to the more extreme proposals of the anti-Second Amendment interests, your support for this so-called “compromise” legislation concerns me greatly and may influence my continued support of the Republican Party on a national basis. Thank you for your attention to my concerns, (me).
