I saw this "Spetsnatz Survival Machete" at Sielger's:

Good grief - $80??? Is this thing even real? (Official decoder ring...)

Has anyone ever seen or used one? I feel like a sucker for even thinking about it. I thought it might make a good truck-tool, but I can't get around the price.

There's some question about whether the export versions are quite the same as the former official issue, and apparently supply is erratic. $80 seems steep to me for what is basically a Com Bloc woodsman's pal. All the reviews they point to in the ad are like ten years old, when, IIRC, it was half that price or less. American Survival Guide? Sheesh... that's been dead a good while now.

I've handled one but never used it in the field. They seemed to be fairly solid but not as solid as the Woodman's Pal. I think the supply is also drying up because I can remember the prices being half of that even a few years ago. If you want something to toss into your truck, I'd just get the Woodsman's Pal.
