So I have never owned a 9mm Luger until today. A small FFL swapped me a SAR B6C for 500 rounds of 556 ball. I have some factory ammo, but we all know that replacing it is not a prospect, so I need to figure out a load. I have brass and bullets, the latter being a choice of 124 grain truncated cone cast, cast Lee 358 125 RF, and 115 and 124 grain flavors of rmr bullets. Powders on hand are bullseye, hp38, universal, unique, Longshot, titegroup and 800x. I want a mid range or lighter load that will be accurate. What combination would you try first?

Just some numbers from my reload file for reference to put with other information you find.

Both loads are not nearly as low as you can go but they fit the bill in extreme accuracy along with 100% function on all my nines. Seems like my wife's vp9 needs this about of power to cycle 100%. .2 grains less had random issues that went away. 1 grain more. Went .2 for extra room.

Rocky Mountain Reloading: Multi Purpose Round: (MPR) Max OAL 1.080 124 grain Jacketed Hollow Point
Tite Group
cz SP01: 4.0 grain
Average FPS: 1099.6

Next
Rocky Mountain Reloading Multi Purpose Round: (MPR) max OAL 1.06 124 grain Jacketed Hollow Point
Tite Group
Shadow 2: 4.1 grain
Average FPS: 1099.6

I have some more info but it's with sport pistol and you already have Tite Group

ullseye, hp38, universal, unique, Longshot, titegroup and 800x.
Longshot is really only happy in 9mm with full power loads and it's loud!, don't know about 800X but would guess that it would be happiest in full power loads as well.

Any of the others should work. Edit- (for light-mid range loads)
From what you listed I would chose HP38(W231) or Universal and would try HP38 first from those 2.
Unique shoots well but does not meter well in any of my measures(known for not metering well), but if you are loading midrange a .2 gr swing in charge weight won't bite you.

Can I trouble you to maybe share your load data for Sport Pistol? Maybe with bullets of 115 or 124 grains? Just bought some Sport Pistol to try out.

It will also do near top end performance with 115 JHP's.

I use the RMR bullets you have along with the Lee 125 RF in 4, 9mm pistols. Both bullets often use mid loads of Universal, right out of my manual (I don't post load data and highly suggest new reloaders ignore any data they see on any forum or hear from any range rat, gun counter clerk or gun shop guru. Get your data from published reloading manuals, you won't see any typos or hear any "Bubba's super performing 'gator killer" loads.)...

With the RMR bullets, plated or jacketed round nose, I use 4.1gr of Titegroup powder with an OAL of 1.125. Fits my chambers with round nose bullets,
For truncated cone bullets like RMR's Match Winners I am using the same load, but with an OAL of 1.080" because of the TC profile.
Didn't change recoil that much and they are much milder to shoot than the full power BE-86 loads I use.
I recently loaded some WCF loads to 4.9 with the 124gr match winners @ 1.080" and they are about like shooting factory S&B loads so I will down them because I don't like the recoil out of my Shield with that load. Brass flies everywhere.
Out of my full sized Ruger SR-9 the recoil is like, Ehh! (shrug shoulders). Cases are laying around my feet and behind me, instead of 4 lanes away.
It's an accurate load though.

Start with midrange loads for any of those powders you have, they all will work well; I prefer ti use 124 RMR or Everglades since I ran out of Xtreme's. I also have Remington 124 Golden Sabers and some Sierras to load up.

My favorite powder for target loads is HP-38. I use this both for cast and jacketed. I have used HS-6 for full power loads to duplicate defensive loads I carry. I was completely satisfied with this powder in this application. Of the options you list, Universal should come close to this application. I have also enjoyed Unique for full power 9mm, but metering inconsistency causes me to shy away from it for max loads in 9mm. I have used it (weighed) right up to the max for a silhouette game played at my local club. It was the most accurate powder I tried. The good news is it works good in 9mm even reduced to a healthy safety margin. The pressure is still high enough for a good burn.

bullseye, best 9mm powder i have used. Any load published. Its underappreciated in 9. 115gr at 1050, up to 125gr at 1200.

I rarely go near the max load for anything except stuff like 38 special that will be shot in a 357.

I may try it, but my favorite 45 load is based on bullseye and with the way things are going I am anticipating having trouble replacing what I shoot.

Universal and/or HP-38 is the way to go.

All the old timers that coached me on handloading advised me to use Win 231/HP-38 for 9mm. There are plenty of published recipes out there on 9mm. Most Luger folks that I know recommend 115gn RN projectiles. If you are just plinking for fun stay on the middle to low side, just enough to cycle the toggle. No need for hot loads that can cause the toggle to slap the back of the frame.

That works for my Luger shooters. Have fun.

Unique makes great 9mm loads IME. So does 231, so does bullseye, and so does Longshot. I haven’t tried the others on your list.

What combination would you try first?

124gr RMR FP MW, 4.1gr Titegroup, 1.120” COL.
124gr RMR FP MW, 4.3gr Sport Pistol, 1.120” COL.
124gr RMR FP MW, 4.2gr W244, 1.120” COL.

All of these are my match loads for a P226, PF 130, so your mileage will vary. I haven’t quite worked up a 231 load yet as I was more interested in 244, but initial testing had the 124 FP MW with 4.1 231 at about a 125PF, and I’d need to get that to 130 PF before being comfortable.

All of these are clean and accurate. Titegroup produces a bit more snap (felt recoil) but it’s manageable. Good luck!

I use 4.9gr of LongShot with the Lee 124-5gr cast bullets. 5.2 with a jacketed bullet.
I’ve never noticed LongShot to be particularly loud. Velocities are excellent, burn clean, accuracy superb.
