You might try the Lee-Enfield forum on Gunboards.com. Some very knowledgable collectors hang out there and can answer your questions, after they flame you for putting the scope mount on it.

The Crown over Crossed Pennants with a 'P' in the lower quadrant is the proofmark. The Crown over Number over Character is an inspection stamp, I cannot make out the lower character, but it usually indicates the production facility, the number identifies a specific inspector (each had own number). D(broad arrow)D is the Australian 'Department of Defence' ownership mark. Hopefully someone else can help with the others.

Thanks Bonza Great info. So Ill assume it was made in Australia. Does the serial number give any clue on the year?

I zoomed it up BTW

Thanks KP.

I came with the scope mount. It's the only way these old eyes can shoot the thing.

If it's an Australian-made rifle the butt-socket will be stamped with Lithgow & a date, otherwise it could be Enfield, BSA, etc.
