Good afternoon,

I recently picked up an Enfield Jungle Carbine at a local estate sale. I have attached pictures.

The receiver is marked "No5MK1ROF(F) 1/45 G22X". All the numbers match, and it has no import markings. Although there are some minor dings in the stock, overall she's in really good shape with a mirror bore. It has a green web sling.

It came with a bayonet, and it to matches the S/N of the rifle. The markings on the bayonet are: "R.F.I." on the left side and "F G22X" on the right side. It is in immaculate condition and has a metal scabbard.

Also with the rifle was a bandolier of ammo marked "50 BALL 303 MARK VII 17 4 45 MW". However, the headstamp on the ammo is "A 80 7.7 R1M3Z" and it is Berdan primed. It is loaded in 5 round stipper clips that have 4 holes in the back, and 5 holes on either side.

Now for my questions: Is it uncommon to find a matching bayonet for these rifles? Because the bayonet is in so much better condition than the rifle, could it have been refinished, or just never saw the light of day? And is the ammo .303 British ammo, even though it's marked 7.7? I'd really like to shoot it. Any idea what the package might be worth?

Just wondering if this was a rare find or an everday run of the mill deal. I didn't pay much for the setup so either way, I won't be too disappointed. Thanks for reading and for any valuable insight and information you may be able to provide. Have a great day.

Nice looking No.5. Never heard of a matching numbered bayonet for JCs. While your rifle is made at Fazerkely in England, the bayonet is from Ishapore, India.
The A80 7.7 is just the South African designation for .303 ammo made in Pretoria, in 1980. Good ammo.
I think you ended up with a great deal, even without a "matching" bayonet.

Damn, you got yourself a real nice rifle there buddy. I had to rebuild one from a Bubba job to get anything near that nice. At least the numbers all match though, so I lucked out there.

Here's mine...

As far a a bayonet though... I know they are not generally all that common as is, but to have one that matches the rifle? That's a first for me, I am not sure if they were issued like that or not, although it is possible. I cannot imagine someone being lucky enough to find a Bayo with matching S/N's.

Very nice weapon sir.

Thanks for your comments and information. If the bayonet was made in India, I wonder why the serial number matches the rifle? Could this have been something the Indians did to match the bayonet with the rifle and if so, why would it matter if they matched or not?? Thanks again!

Yeah, the Bayo is made in India for sure... bastard just got damn lucky I guess....

How much $$$ if you don't mind my askin'?

Wow, nice score! I have one I found in a pawn shop for $150. All correct and matching, in great shape, just filthy and had 3 holes D&T'd for a scope mount. I just refinished the wood yesterday.

For the best info on Enfields, go to here http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=72 and look for Peter Laidler.

Here's mine. As purchased....
