Whats going on ladys and gentlemen I have just newley aquired an ar 15 and on top of her i mounted a eotech 512. I am seeking info on how to properly use the sight. I have shot lots of Ar 15s and m4s but only good ol irons on em. If anyone has any hints or tips i would appreciate it thanks...

turn the sight on using either button, zero at 50yds which will give you the best results form 8 to 220yds. +/- only 2 " or so.

then go to town, you will instantly see that you are faster with the red dot, and you will probally have a hard time going bak to the irons to practice with. red dots are awesome, and the eotech s my favorite and that s what i happen to have on my ar.

then i suggest that you go to a training course and the let the pros show you how to run that ar with the eo tech.

i suggest Pat Rogers classes also check out tactical response. both great options.

With the EOTech you want to leave both eyes open and focus on the target, not the reticle. I love my EOTech.

which eotech should i buy? or what is the best sighting system for my AR. the irons are perfect on it but i want something faster. whats the most cost effective sigting system i can get?

For the money & performance, it's hard to beat the EoTech 511 series.
Either the N cell model, or AA battery model which is bigger.

It's hard for me to justify the almost $100 bucks additional for the 552/3 series just to get SEAL Team waterproofing and night vision scope compatible dimness setting I can't see.
I'm not a frogman, and I don't have a night-vision scope!

The extra battery life over the N battery model would be nice though, but not $100 nice, for me at least.
The AA 512 has the same battery life as the 552/553.

Anyone know where the best deal on a Eotech 512.A65 is? Every place Iv'e seen has had it listed for $399.

not to hijack the thread but had a beginner Eotech question, too:

Don't have one but i have a bushmaster XM15-E2S. It has the integral carry handle. is it feasible to run the eotech on top of the handle? is there too much offset from the barrel to be accurate? Thanks in advance.

No, you can't mount on on top of the handle. (Well, you could, but I wouldn't!)
There are goose-neck mounts available that put a rail in front of the handle and get the EO down where it belongs.

The mount has a sight tunnel through it so the iron sights can be used normally with the EO taken off the mount. They clamp on with one thumb screw so it takes about 10 seconds to remove it.

BTW: All EO's have an auto-shut-off feature.
Depending on which brightness button is used to turn it on, it will automatically shut off after either 4 or 8 hours to conserve batterys if you forget to turn it off.

Down (left) button = 4 hours.
Up (right) button = 8 hours.

dscott88, Eotech is pretty adamant about their "MAP", minimum advertised price. Check AR15.com, and you can find guys that throw in freebies or shipping in order to be more competitive.

I just bought the new 516/A65 for 389.00. It has the side turn on buttons so you can use a magnifier. It is also raised 7mm to you can mount it forward to clear the delta ring and handguards. Has the features of the new 557 without NV. Uses the 123A batteries the same as most tac lights and is rated at 1100 hrs. Makes for a smaller package.
