EOTech giving owners full refund for holographic sights

I applied last week and had an accepted response the following morning. My EOTech will be going back to the mothership as soon as I can get it to the post office. I bought my XPS-2 in 2010 and haven't had any significant problems with it. I loved the reticle and viewing area. I have always been less than impressed with the battery life and push-button controls, but never displeased enough to sell my sight for a loss. Having the opportunity to sell it back for what I paid is a no-brainer. I've also moved to Alaska, and haven't had a chance to see the extreme temperature swing effects first hand, but if there was ever a place for extreme temperature swings this is it.

Just an update for anybody still curious about the process. If the status they gave me over the phone today is accurate, it should be a 7-week turn-around from the time they received my sight to the time I get a check in the mail.

10/13/2016 - Requested refund from EOTech
10/14/2016 - RMA issued from EOTech via email
10/25/2016 - Shipped my sight via USPS
10/28/2016 - Delivered @ L3/EOTech
No updates were available via the status check website at any time. (https://eotech.rebateaccess.com/status.php)
12/6/2016 - Called the refund hotline for a status check, on hold 5-10 minutes. 1-888-952-9092. I was told my refund check is scheduled to be cut and sent 12/12/2016.

Up reading your post MrCleanOK, I also called and checked on mine. It was not showing up on that link either. Same story from me, wait 5 minutes, give them the information. Get told check is being cut on 12/12 and it will be mailed then.

Good news is we will have the check in a week or so.

Yes I always wondered why SOCOM bought so many of them. Knowing the Army as I do, I suspect that it had a lot to do with having something "different" from the rest of the Army.

In the late 70s airborne units were wearing Vietnam era camouflage jungle fatigues. In 83 when the BDUs were fielded in quantity many of them started wearing the old OD green Vietnam era jungle fatigues. I guess since the big army was wearing camo now they had to have something to set them apart....

I was stationed at Fort Polk. The regular BDUs were hot as hell whereas the ripstop OD green jungle fatigues were much cooler. I don't think that just anyone could wear the fatigues, you had to be at a warm weather post - at least that's what I was told.

I wonder if they will survive as a company? This has to hurt their bottom line a LOT.
They have assets of over 12 billion and sales of over 11 billion so far in 2016...how much do you think this really cost them, how much more do you think a class action suit would have cost to settle?

I think they will be around a while

11/15 sent request and got RMA same day.
11/16 shipped, buttttt Lost tracking # (doh!!)

Called a few minutes ago and was told check would be cut on 12/12.

Aside from the 25m gov settlement. Id be willing to bet the number of returns are not as staggering as one would think. Still see a lot of them in stores and at ranges + not every firearms owner is in tune with the online communities.

As long as you still see used EOTechs popping up for sale on this forum and others, there are people that don't have a clue that this refund program is being offered. Why would you sell an optic second hand when the manufacturer will take it back at MSRP? L3 is gonna be just fine, this isn't even a speed bump to them.

Some people may not want to hassle with the delay, and just want/ need the money right away to get a replacement.

They have imported some fakes that are all but indistinguishable from the originals in their exterior appearance. Buyer beware. I looked at one two weeks ago that the seller wanted $90 for, he knew it was a copy and was not trying to pull a fast one. When it was sitting on the counter next to a real one, you could not tell the difference, same stickers, same lettering, etc. He knew how to tell them apart, but for the common person it would be very hard.

FYI, EOTech also knows the difference, LOL.

Check arrived today 12/17
might be a record for turnaround or just perfect timing?

I'm one of those who's not turning mine in. The unit in question is on a suppressed .45 carbine, and the temperature extremes here in GA aren't enough to really worry about, especially with the ballistics of .45 ACP.

Might mean that I wish I'd returned it one day, but the thing has been great for me.

After much deliberation, I am hanging on to -- and will continue to use -- my EOTech. It has functioned just fine in wet and snowy climates in sub-freezing temps as well as in the woods and desert with temps over 100 F. We've still got a few in service at work, too that have no problems.

Some of are well aware of the HWS issues and the company's refund program and continue to use ours ... simply because they're still working and we like them ...

I kept mine until I tried to sight in a pullpup (optic over barrel) on a 112F+ Arizona summer day :) Thought my optic was loose!

L3 is involved in lots of things. A buddy used to work there as a contractor working on some sort of defense department project (classified - he wouldn't tell me). My guess is this was a nuisance and nothing more.

I put both of mine in a 0F freezer for a day took them out, remounted quickly and checked zero- still good.
Since I likely will never see 0F in my use I think I'll keep them. Haven't seen another holo in the same price range I like better.

The first time I drew a bead on a target with that dot in circle hologram it was dusk going on dark and it didn't seem like a scope on the rifle but like an implant in my eye.

Sent mine in 10/19/16 , they received it 10/21/16( according to my insured USPS receipt). Called the EOTech refund center after 4 weeks, again on 12/29/16 and on 1/11/17- no reply from EOTech and a runaround from the refund center.
