I have just acquired a .44 cal New Model Army revolver. It appears to be a replica of a Remington 1898. The revolver is in excellent condition except the hammer will not engage the safety notches in the cylinder. What are my options?

The markings are many however, there is a small DGG in a circle under the rammer on the bottom of the barrel, an AC in a square and several PMs under small stamps on the frame.

I have several questions for the forum: 1. Is this gun worth the $170 I have invested? 2. Who makes the revolvers for Euroarms? 3. How would I get replacement cylinders for this gun?

I would appreciate any help the forum can provide!

Euroarms is the propriatory name for Arms Made by Armi San Paolo...Now known as Euroarms Italia. The triangulated DGG stands for the 3 original owners of Armi San Paolo, Grassi, Doninelli, & Gazzola. I hav a very old one myself ...they are an exact replica in size of the original Remingtons...Euroarms of America will conduct business by email and I think by phone. You'll find Euroarms Italia site is mostly in Italian...but you can get the email addy, and look at their catalog. Hope this helped.
Did you just get that one on Gunbroker...and is it Stainless or blued?
Nice gun keep it or sell it to me.

Thanks for the fast response to my post.
I swapped an Austro Hungarian M-95 rifle and some cash for the gun at my favorite gun shop. My revolver is blued and has very few blemishes. There are several small, deep rust(?) spots on the cylinder but I doubt that the gun has ever been fired. I can't understand why the safety notches in the cylinder aren't machined to match the hammer face! The cylinder notches are shallow and crescent shaped!
Years ago, I had a Ruger Old Army and the safety notches were deep and matched the hammer foot print.
How old do you think my gun may be? How are the safety notched machined on your gun?

The euro arms /armi San Marco do not seem to be widely distributed. From your post, there seems to be some sort of deficit. I am interested in the overall quality of these, availability of spare parts/customer support and such.

From your observation, do you believe that the Euro arms is of high quality or does it instead, suck?

MEC, Smokin_Gun's Armi San paolo '58 is a nice gun. I thought it was an original due ti feel and heft. I would rate SG's on a par with Pietta. I liked it so much that I'm looking for one. SG's is an old one though.

sorry I called it an armi san marco- I know about those.

Over in my Home Forum a Friend Named Rimfires over in England. A Cowboy/ Writer/Tester of Firearm including Uberti. But does storys and evaluations on all Mfg. He's a hardcore Colt Collector, 1st generation. And told me the other day that he had done a write up on the Euroams products and reated them very high quality firearms. Actually rated the 1858 rem very highly. He said, " you know the rem had to be good for me to even write a bout it." Was an inside joke between us... Colt vs Rem so to speak. When I get a chance to i'm buyin a New One...I think it's called the Sport model has the dovetailed sight and loading level latch like the Uberti. I think there's only a .001" differance between chambers and bore also.

That's good information. I have just examined/ shot the Euroarms63 springfield and mississippi rifle. Both were extremely well done.

Mec,
Just today we have discovered that Armi San Paolo/Euroarms '58 NMA is actually a copy of the 1861 "Old" Army, as the BBL threads are not as exposed (2)as in the NMA( 3 or more) and NO scallop in the frame at the Breech of the bbl. Interesting to say the least. Also we have found(Oldelm, Smoking_Gun, did anyway) that Uberti '58 Rem. Cylinder drops right in and cycles perfectly, Oldelm also dropped in an Uberti R & D conversion and it too works great......Don't know about the parts availability tho...:what:  :)
Smoking_Gun's ASP is a neat Pistol and I love it's heft and feel. See the posts on the Firingline about a new '58 Remington to see pictures Oldelm took.

That is an interesting variation. I've seen that on some earlier reproductions but not on the Uberti-Piettas lately.
