EuroArms Remmie Question

I`ve been shooting an old Euro Remmie , proof date 1973 for some time . She is a bit small for my hand but a good shooter , and I like the chamfered cylinder mouths ..My question is really for the guys with the newer Euro Remmies ..I was always wondering if the newer guns were built the same way with the chamfered cylinder mouths ...And something else mine has that I haven`t seen on anyother make is the tip of the loading ram where it meets the stud is recessed into the stud so it doesn`t have any side slip at all ..the ram arm locks tight into the latch stud .I really like this feature , have been thinking of doing my other models this way .

Yeah, my 2006 model has the chamfered cylinder mouths. I don't understand why the other makers don't do this, I really like it and from what I understand it should make the gun more accurate....

ball size?

Hi,
I've got a '73 Euroarms 1858 on the way. What size ball do these take? Never had a champfered (sp?) cylinder and I'm assuming that it won't shave off a ring like my 1860 does?

Mine takes .454 balls, don't know if a '73 would be the same or not. No, it doesn't shave any lead, so it makes a tighter seal and gives you a heavier projectile.

My 1973 model shoots a .454 ball very well and no lead shaved eaither .

BigBlock does your 2006 have the loading rammer that locks into the stud the way my older model does ..( no side play )

Well Well, almost like home.
I am just learning who is who.
Shotgun Willy, I used .451s because that is what I had. I think .454s would give more bearing surface. I only shot two cylinders full out of it with balls and that was over three years ago. I don't remember if it cut a ring or not. All the other shooting I did was with the conversion cylinder.

I did a search last night on Euroarms and made the connection as to who was who from an old post.
Gotta say I'm feeling like a kid the night before Christmas. It's gonna be a tough couple of weeks waiting.

I'm interested in a new Euroarms but am curious as to how hard the steel is. If it's as soft as Pietta's, I'll get a Uberti.

Hi Lee,
I'm not expecting new looking, after all this gun's 34 years old. Fully functional and not shaped like an 'L' and we're golden. It's a shooter after all.

Yeah, it does...I thought they were all that way.

I think the rammer locks on the stud on all also.
I just checked the pair that I have left and they do. They were made in 72.
I filed the end of the little latch on a Pietta 1858 so it wouldn't have any side play when locked up. It worked but there wasn't much metal left, like two little needles sticking out.

Thanks for the info BigBlock , and Uncle Lee ..I was thinking of fixing my Pietta that way , but was figureing on sliming down the dia. of the stud first so I would be left with a little more on the rammer end . I`ve not tried it yet but maybe the rammer from my Euro gun will fit the Pietta , If so I`ll just order one from SXS ...since the new guns still have this .
