What would I expect to pay for the total cost of a Remmie 1858 plus the conversion cylinder? I was thinking of buying one as a gift for my father who liked the movie Pale rider where Clint was changing out the cylinders during the shootout at the end. I was looking at Cabela's for the steel framed versions and I noticed how they have really gone up in price over the years. :what: Add in the factor of a conversion cylinder and the price starts to run up rather steeply. :scrutiny: Any ideas on how the best way to purchase them? Thanks for the advice! Ed

I just purchased that little combo. I found the Remmie w/ starter kit 239.00 + tax; and the conversion cylinder on Midways for around 250.00 + tax. Those are about the best prices I could find.

Where did yo but it from?

If you don't mind me asking. I am very interested!

Cabela's generally has good prices on the Pietta Remmies. $200 + shipping for the 8 incher and $220 + shipping for the 5 1/2. The cylinders are pretty much the same everywhere, you just have to decide whether to get Kirst or R&D.

Keep in mind if you're going to cartridge convert, you probably don't need the starter kit. Heck, even if you aren't you probably don't need the starter kit. Everyone I know says that they replaced everything their starter kits with better stuff.

Look on GunsAmerica and GunBroker - there a couple of vendors there who sell them as a set . As for starter kits make your own! For this application a silicone cloth and cleaning kit would be great. If shooting BP measure, capper, flask caps, balls, powder, GOOD eye protection and bore butter.

No! I'm not telling you! haha, j/k. I bought the revolver from Cabelas and the cylinder from Midway USA

I ordered an 1858 conversion in 5 1/2" from Taylors. It comes already cut for the shell and loading gate with cylinder installed. They supply a cap n ball cylinder with the gun to swap back and forth. Although I ordered mine in .45, they also sell the navy version in .38. This is the Clint Eastwood gun if that is want you want. It is a little smaller than the "army". I'll let you know how it shoots when it comes in. Of course you need a FFL licensed dealer to order it. It was $445.00 plus a dealer handling charge.
