Even the NYT admits normal people are driving sales up

Good comment. Let me translate the NYT story through their standard narrative machine for those who haven't really been paying attention: Now that certain favored (by the NYT) identity groups are buying guns in large numbers, buying guns isn't necessarily a knee jerk crazy fascist thing anymore.

Aside from the past 6 years or so I'm a life long NY'er, and read the Times every day.

They had an article a couple of years ago about how a bunch of Brooklyn hipsters realized that venison is free range, growth hormone free, antibiotic free, organic, and local lean meat and they decided to take hunter safety courses, buy guns, and go hunting.

All of a sudden the Times' hate for guns and hunting temporarily dissipated and it was OK to hunt. It was like the hipsters had invented hunting and the Times was shocked no one had ever thought of it before.

Of course the comment section after the article was filled with screaming PETA members who thought the Times editorial section had completely lost their collective minds. lol

Well, New York has got all kinds. You don't have to like em all. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Count me as one of those in Michigan behind the 198% increase in gun sales from last year. I went from never owning or firing a gun in my life to now owning several long guns, a safe, and a bunch of ammo all within the last six months. My wife and I are going for our CPL next weekend. I’ve seen enough this year to realize I was not prepared to protect my family if some serious crap came our way.

The bonus was I found that shooting is actually a lot of fun. So now I shoot at my buddy’s house at his range on his property and have a great time! Win win!

Good for you! Glad it’s something exciting for you. I was never raised around guns consistently. Discovered on my own.

The “cancel culture” is rampant on both sides. Its amazing to me how many NRA members automatically dismiss a person if they disagree on an unrelated subject when drinking beers at the clubhouse.

NYT article highlights some important changes in gun ownership. If we went the 2A solidified like other rights it needs support from the left. I think Democrats would win a lot more elections if they backed off 2A issues instead of doubling down.

Pulling politics into this consistently after numerous admonishments will end the discussion. While I also view the Times as a pulpit for a set of stances, I find encouragement in the article. However we find ourselves branded therein nothing has changed in an instant due to the confirmation. Did anyone believe they thought otherwise?

In my short life spanning fewer than 5 decades many a trend has come full circle. Looking at history on a longer timeline indicates some trends take longer. And many take their lap without exhaustive research or increased understanding of subject, but rather are based on an overall trend.

Economic shift during regime change? Vote the other way. Bikini can’t get any smaller? Back to the more modest 1-piece. Not everyone will be swept up by changing tides but generally speaking radical movements fuel conservative movements which fuel radical movements.

How far the needle shifts on that longish trend is based on how much stability or instability that exists at each turn. This and similar articles may not push a given political party toward populist mentality just yet but I argue it is a start.

NYT is confuse again. What is normal people any human being or even an animal try to defend themselves if they are threatened.
The values of society were threatened what they spect, wait batman to come.
