I'm not a big fan of .40. I don't dislike it, I would just rather shoot .380, 9mm, .38/.357, and .45. But it feels like there is a hole in my caliber collection. .22, .22 mag, .32, .380, 9mm, .38/.357, and .45 are all present. But .40 and .357 sig are missing. So is .454 and .44, but those are already on the list. Just waiting for the right specimen for those. So, two questions:

1. Ever want a caliber just to fill in a gap or "because you can?"

2. I consider the Glock to be THE 9mm platform. I give nods to the HP and the CZ, but when I think "nine," I think "Glock." When I think "forty-five" I think "1911." When I think "forty," I don't know what to think then. What would be the platform best suited or most associated with .40?

At one time I owned both a Glock 22 and a USP .40. I traded in the USP only because I didn't like the stippling on the front and backstraps. Then Massachusetts banned them. :banghead:

Now that I live in NH, I've been considering getting a USP again. I'll probably go for the .45 version this time, just because I can.

Either the G22 or the USP is an outstanding platform for the .40, so I'd say that it would come down to your preferred fire controls.

Killing 2 birds with one stone...

I'm getting 2 calibers that I'm not real fond of with 1 gun later this month....

WILSON COMBAT announced they are going to make their 1911's in both 9mm and 38 Super. I ordered a CLASSIC model 38 Super, with extra fitted 9mm barrel;) Should be a fun practice gun, and if I shoot much more IDPA, a fine ESP class pistol. Here's a pic off their website....

Should be in later in the month:p

I'm not a fan of the 40 either...I much rather shoot 9mm or my 45's. I've owned a few 40's & didn't really care for them much. I like having the few calibers I already own...easier on the wallet just buying a few calibers of ammo rather than the many.

If all you want is to fill a hole in your caliber lineup, why not get one of the $249 CZ40B's in CDNN's catalogue? It's the cheapest way I know of solving your problem, and it's not a bad gun really :)

Oh, and yes, I have a hankering for a caliber I don't particularly "like"... I have been lurking in gun forums for a while and reading lots of numbers on stopping power and such. I have never really liked .45 ACP and always thought it was a little silly what a huge following it had, but I wrote it off to nostalgia.

I also was kind of annoyed at what a loyal following the 1911 had, considering there are many newer and better designs today... right?? lol...

However, ever since I test-fired someone's 1911 .45, I have had the inexplicable urge to get one. I find myself staring at pics of Springfield mil-spec 1911's and drooling... Then slapping myself and saying, "You fool, it is a clunky, old, outdated design and an oversized, slow-moving, ballistically poor, expensive, impractical caliber! You don't want one!"

Yeah, I'll probably cave in and buy one soon...

Not as much as for a gun I really don't like, ie a fullsized glock in 45 acp
or a Coonan in 357, I think Glocks are Gl'ugly and highly modified 1911's are problems looking for a solution.

Then again a 7.62 tok or 30 Luger would be a hole I might like to fill, gimme a CZ52 or a 6" P08

The .40 came to my mind as soon as I read the title of this thread. There are only two reasons I would get a .40 one is the cz40 only comes in .40 and I want one. The other is a CZ as well, the new RAMI has me thinkin that a .40 that size could be kinda cool. I'll probably go with the 9mm version first cause so far I only have autos in .22 and 9mm.

If I buy myself a cz40 for christmas then and like it I may go with getting a .40 rami.

I like .357sig but think I can live without it until I have added many othen guns to my collection. Of course a .357sig rami has me thinking........naw it would kick like a mule.

I've thought about the nine millimeter many times over the years, but have never seen a gun in that caliber I liked enough to spend the money, especially considering it's neither a remarkably accurate nor remarkably useful cartridge.

I've had that problem in reverse. I've always admired the BHPs, but never cared for the 9mm and owned a .40 when they first came out and it showed me nothing. One day I may break down and buy a BHP (in 9mm like it's suppose to be), but probably never fire it.

Standing Wolf's comments about the 9 leave me a little

But anyways, sometimes I feel like buying a .45 caliber handgun, but dislike the lack of penetration. But I like the idea of a lower pressure, lower noise round that still packs a punch. And single stack mags are a dime a dozen. And there's definately cheap high quality .45 ammo out there, can't say I've seen much of the same for the .40 or .357Sig.

Don't care much for the .40 either---but have a Sig-Pro 2340 on lay-a-way because the price was a steal---NIB $399.

Tough to pass that one up.---lol

Seems like I always have a 9mm or two in the inventory.

Kinda wanted a .40, .38 and .45 (still kinda do on the latter) but got it out of my system during the roadtrip of tacticality.

9mm Berettas for Skunky.

Kinda want a .30 luger, or a .30 Mauser, even though they are more trouble they are worth - especially if I could get the Luger in the BHP, or 1911:D

Have 9mm's and .45's, so I "need" .40's and .357 Sig's. That way I can chime in on any thread and proclaim what's best. :D

I kinda' had a hankerin for another fourty-five. What I bought was a 10mm 1911....hehehehehe! I had never really heard anything about the 10mm before, but suspected it might be a little more potent than my old .40S&W. Now.....I have sold my soul to this caliber. It's even got me thinking about reloading.:banghead: May god have mercy on those who know not of the 10mm!
