Ever pour out or give away good powder you don't like?

I have about 2/3 lb of CFE-P. I've found it inferior in every cartridge I've tried and doubt I'll ever use it again.

I may just pour it out to make space.

Have you ever discarded or given away good (not old or expired) powder you just didn't want?

In some instances I have given it to friends who reload. Other times I sell or trade it away. Don't recall ever dumping out unspoiled powder.

I have an unopened bottle of tite wad. Bought it not paying close attention. Thinking it was tite group. Im going to ask the reloading shop. If i can put towards a purchase.

I bought all my nephew-in-laws reloading gear and components last year. That included 8# of CFE-Pistol. The lgs took it in trade on a brick of primers. I got half of what it was worth according to the price on the bottle, but I had no need for it and the primers came in handy.

I wouldn't pour it out unless it was going bad, someone local can most likely use it. AND free is a hard price to walk away from.

Haven't dumped but used Varget for the first time yesterday. Had a terrible time metering it so doubt I will use it again.

Yep, I'm pretty sure I poured out a partial bottle of H4350 8-10 years ago. I had sold off the .260 Remington rifle I was using it for 3-5 years prior to that, and my dad was loading .30-06 for an M-1 Garand and had no use for it. Even today neither of us has anything that a 4350-class powder would be useful for.

Oh, yeah, I've definitely poured out partials of very, very old powders from estate sales. When the notes and data on the included reloads were incomplete and the rounds were starting to show verdigris, it was the only safe course of action. Would you want to bet your face and fingers that the contents of the canister were what they said they were?

Edited: oops, I forgot the "good powder" part of the OP. But I think I'll leave the last paragraph anyway.

Given away or loaded up for can and bottle hunting. But I’ve never thrown away anything useful, to me or someone else.

None of the stick powders meter terribly well, unfortunately, but Varget is my favorite to hand weigh for .223 precision.

I've never gotten rid of any powder except by shooting it, lol. Then again, I try to research each one well before buying and also try to keep my variety somewhat consolidated.

I have the same issue with CFE223. I use it for middle of the road foulers for 308 and 223 with bullets that I have had poor results with. I have an #8 bottle though, and Im down to a couple pounds. When its gone, Ill never buy more.

With the shortages of powder today, its really hard to just pour it out, and I hate using primers to shoot a powder up that isnt working well for me. So I just sit on it and use it once in awhile.

When buying rifle powders I tend to stick to known good working combinations. Varget for 308, H4350 for 6CM, 8208 XBR for 223, etc. But once again, shortages are causing me to look at other powders. Recently Ive started playing with TAC, AA2250, and Staball Match. I bought a couple pounds of each so I can test them in 223 and 308 which is about 70% of my shooting every year. And if they dont work out, Im only a couple pounds vested into it, so no huge loss.

The WAGUNS forum host a new years day shoot every year. They have a raffle table and a free table.
I take stuff I don't need to the shoot and set out on the tables to give away.
Two years ago I took a pound of LilGun powder there.

I actually just offered up 2 bottles of Titegroup to a friend because it doesn't do anything for me that I am not also getting out of my preferred HP-38. I'm also not a big fan of cleaning the Titegroup out of the powder measure. It seems like no matter what I do to try to combat static cling, it still sticks to everything.

I have. Back in the day, where I was paranoid about mixing powders of different lots, I would dump the dregs out in the yard. Likewise, when I decided I was done with my can of H4831, which did NOT work well in the .348WCF, I just dumped it out. A few years later, I would regret that... because I could have used it in the 6.5CM.

I'm dealing with unwanted powders, now. I bought some different powders during the Obama shortage, namely TiteGroup, that I'm forcing myself to use up, and some test powders for 9mm and .45ACP... which, again, I'm forcing myself to use up. Waste not, whatnot. I've got partial cans of SportPistol and W244 I'll burn up in the .45ACP, then I have 2.5# of WST to use. 9mm gets the TiteGroup...

I make a lot of trades, and I just toss the powder in after the deal is made. The only powder I have ever just hated was power pistol.

In today's uncertain times, throwing away anything that could be useful is just dumb. Give it to someone in need, trade it for something you need, or save it until you find a use. My CFE Pistol supply is dedicated to .380 since that's all I've found it useful for. A few grains at a time, I'm using it up. At my current rate the 3/4lb I have left should last the rest of my life.

I have given away powders I didn't need or want several times.

Lil Gun, H414 and Rx17. I would love to trade these off for more useful powders.

I have no reason dump them, but hopefully will be able to use them as trading fodder with people who have better use for them than I.
