Expensive Makarov

Looking at on-line auctions, I found a guy selling a Russian Makarov, like new(he says). The ad says it's been in a safe for years, holster and extra mags included. The asking price is $1,169. and some change.
Now, I know Mak prices have gone up, but is a Mak worth that much now? Would any of you pay that much for one? And if so, would you be interested in my authentic military CZ82 for just $899.?:rolleyes:
 
that's like this one guy a couple miles where i live... has a clapped out 1974 charger that's literally a frame and body shell, all rusted out, no interior, no dash, dents and holes... he's asking 5 grand for it, lmao.wrong year, wrong price, wrong train of thought. :D
 
Maks are great little pistols for under $200.00. But for over a grand there are a lot of other pistols to look at. With that said, I have two great Maks that I would be willing to let go for about $900.00 a piece, just PM me. :D

It might be worth that much if it is a mint condition USGI bring-back (from vietnam or Korea) without import marks on them... But it is highly unlikely, the dude is just out of his mind.
 
The most valuable Maks are the Chinese Norinco Model 59 (very rare, as they were never legally imported ... a handful of war trophies may have come back in GI duffel bags) Those would go for more than a couple grand (assuming you could find a collector interested).

Next in value is the post unification German Simson Suhl model, followed by the East German (made in the same factory in Suhl as the Simson Suhl, but more plentiful so less valuable. The East German and Simson Suhl Maks are probably the best quality). Simson Suhl Maks might be valued over a grand (maybe as much as 1500) EG Maks tend to hover in the $500-800 range.

Occasionally you stumble across an actual Russian Soviet Army Makarov (they came over mixed in with the tons of Bulgarian guns). They're worth as much as the East Germans if they're in like new condition.

Still, no Russian Mak is worth over a grand unless it has some seriously cool provenance (like paperwork proving it was issued to Vladimir Putin or someone else famous).

And if his Russian Mak is a Russian Commercial (a Baikal) its worth no more than a good solid Bulgarian.


Selling my Bulgy Mak a couple years back was one of those gun mistakes :(
 
Makarov's shouldn't be purchased for more than a few hundred. And to answer your question, yes, I am interested in an Authentic CZ-82. So much so that I purchased one from aimsurplus for $220. A Steal compared to the $900 asking price you mentioned.

Chinese Type 59 Makarovs were legally imported into the U.S. just like the other Norinco firearms.
 
I, too, have a Type 59 Chinese pistol. I paid just about $140.00 for it. I also own a E. German Makarov, and an IJ-70 Russian Makarov (Commercial). The IJ-70 is unfired, and still in the box with it's holster, and a spare magazine. I even have the receipt for it. I'd take $1200 for it.:eek: Or $1100. Or $1000.:rolleyes:

You are not going to find a Mak in great condition for that money anymore, those days are gone man! More like $300-400. As for 1,200, unless it was Nikita Khrushchev's personal firearm, it ain't worth that much.
 
"...mint condition..." 'Mint' means unfired and exactly as it came out of the factory.
Unless there's documentation that proves it belonged to Stalin or Marshal Zhukov, there ain't no Makarov that's worth $1,169.
 
I remember seeing Maks at the gun stores for $100-150. That's why this one just floored me. The same guy has auctions going for various other Maks at $600-700, "but he pays shipping".
I didn't see anyone bidding on any of them. I'm sure a real war trophy would command a better price, but none of these are advertised as such.
And, BTW, I was just joking about selling my CZ82. I paid $189 for it and love it too much.
 
My brother has one, paid about about $150 for it with a bunch of extra magazines. I have fired it and it is fairly accurate but has a very, very heavy trigger in the 8 to 10 lb range and fires a 9 X 19 round. I for the life of me can't see one demanding $600 unless it was , as someone said, Stalins

Forgot to add that I have a
Tokarev TT33 Soviet 7.62-mm x 25 Type-P with Russian markings (without the safety modification) that was widely used by the NVA during the Vietnam conflict and sells in the $350 to $450 range in these parts of the country, but to me that is overpriced
 
If you shop around and are patient you can still find some Bulgie and Russina commercial Maks for around $200. Those days are waning however.
 
this is a really interesting thread, i found an great condi. EG mak at a pawn shop a few years back and couldnt leave without it...glad to know it might be worth more than what i paid for it...
