I have discovered that a Gerber or Leatherman multi-tool pouch works great for carrying a single-stack magazine incognito. Has anyone else come up with anything creative for carrying a DOUBLE STACK magazine in a similar manner? The magazine I am looking to fit specifically is for an M&P9C.

I also use an old Gerber leather pouch for my single stacks. I have a couple Blackhawk! pouches for double stack mags. There are some cell phone cases (think early 2000s cellphones) that fit double stack mags. I see them at Goodwill and other thrift shops for dirt cheap.

Walmart carries good quality double stack magazine pouches for about $10 each. These can be carried in horizontal or vertical position on belt. These are made in Idaho or Wyoming where jobs are probably hard to find so you will be keeping small town folks employed.

Mag pouches are so easy to conceal, and inexpensive that I don't really see the point in not buying one. Your mags may fit into something else, but might not work well on the draw, or may be too loose, resulting in lost mags.

If you're on a tight budget, keep an eye on eBay. I found a brand new Galco pouch in a pawn shop for $5, also. The buy/sell forums here work great, too.

The main idea that I had for doing this is to keep my mags "hidden" in plain sight. I rarely carry openly and if the mags can look like something other than what they are, I don't have to pull my shirt over them. The downside to this is that people will occasionally ask to use my "Gerber" and I have to be creative in telling them why they can't.:D

I thought I was being clever by re-using old multitool pouches at one point.

Then I actually tried a purpose-built IWB magazine pouch, and wondered what I'd ever been thinking. Comfort increased, no more wondering where the pouch actually is on the belt, no floppy cloth thing on my waist. Totally wirth it. I use one from Tucker Gunleather and one from CrossBreed, both are good designs.

But if you're concealing a gun on the other side of your hip, then concealing a mag pouch should be the easy part. And like Dave said, they make great IWB ones that really hide that sucker good.

The only problem I see with IWB for my magazine is that I won't be able to get to it when I need it. I will however order one based on your suggestion and try it.

They sit exactly where a normal mag pouch would, except closer to the body. The same "amount of mag" is available to grab.

Obviously, with all things we stake out lives on, some practice will be involved.

The top of the mag pouches should be very close to the top of your belt/pants. This works best with a real gunbelt and a bit of extra room in the pants.

OK, this is a small picture, but you can see the belt clips, and they're somewhat adjustable up and down. Tension screws in the middle are also adjustable.
I actually ended up replacing my Tucker Kydex clips with CrossBreed springsteel clips, but most of my holsters' hardware is a grab-bag these days, I simply like the spring steel clips low profile and minimal snagging.

I use one of the Tucker units as a singlestack mag carrier, the CrossBreed version (Kydex shells on a leather backer) for doublestack.

You set the mag tension (by screw or minor heating/bending with Kydex) so the mags are just barely snug in the pouches when NOT on your belt, then when you wear the thing your belt provides more retention. Much like an IWB holster for a pistol, in fact.

If you're not feeling like Tactical Tommy on any given day, the rear mag pouch can hold a small light, or a knife
Sometimes for laughs, I'll slip my NAA mini revolver in there (it's a perfect fit in a 1911 mag pouch)
