got a Browning Buckmark, used but LNIB condition. When shooting Federal Automatch it won’t extract maybe one out of five to one to out of ten rounds. I have to pick the cases out with a mini screwdriver. Gets perturbing after a while. It’s got maybe 300 rounds total.

Wondering if it will loosen up and get better with more use. I did just really lube it up to try to get it smoothed out, but haven’t shot since then

Thoughts?

I'd say the used Buckmark Camper I bought last December is the most reliable .22 pistol I've had. Of course my memory could be wrong but either way I have fired thousands of rounds with only one or two issues being possibly the gun. Make sure that gun is clean is all I can recommend. Your ejector may need replacing but make sure it is moving freely first. At Rimfire Central I have read of people having issues extracting due to filth. I have been shooting two bricks before I clean my Buckmark so even once they are fairly dirty they are still reliable.

Clean chamber. Polish chamber. Clean chamber again. Try the ammo again.

Do this. You csn use a Q-tip covered in Flitz metal polish. Try oiling the ammo in your magazine. Literally put drops of Gun oil on them liberally
I did that when I shot Bullseye.

You can also try other ammo. I had the best groups and reliability with CCI Blaser

Well, it’s not a buckmark, but my Charger has problems with Automatch and runs fine on CCI standard and Blazer. Also happens in my MKII, but not as often, but runs standards near 100%.

I think the quality of automatch made in the last few years has suffered.

Have you tried another type of ammo?

Could just be the ammo as was earlier stated. Buy a few different boxes of .22 Lr and see if the problem ends with different makers, bullet styles and velocities.

No more problems, most likely that batch of ammo.
Still have problems, look at the gun. Give it a thorough cleaning and oiling and try again. If you still have issues do the chamber polish and then give the extractor some attention.

If these all fail to fix it call Browning.

Stay safe.

I have no issues with Federal Automatch in either my Buckmark Hunter of my Ruger Mark IV or Mark III. However my Advantage Arms conversion hates the stuff.
You will just need to find something that will work for you, but try cleaning the chamber really well first, that may fix the problem.

I like the cleaning answer. I went back and saw this not a gun you've had for a while. I would second the cleaning but get some of that bore cleaner that takes lead and copper out. Hit the chamber with it and let it sit for some time and see what comes out. The color will tell you. But getting carbon out of chamber will help and check the extractor for carbon etc.Ammo next answer.

Chuck it in a drill and work it in and out a little, without going past the chamber. A rough chamber can cause extraction issues in a heartbeat.

I bought a Colt OMM in .22 LR that had been converted to .22 Mag. Got it cheap because it had been converted. The first time I shot it I had to almost beat the brass out. After polishing the chambers the brass almost falls out. It's a real fun shooter.

Oil the rounds. I have been burning through 1980's Armscor, the wax lube is a bit dry. Oiling the cartridges will improve function in an autoloader as the oil will break the friction between the cartridge and chamber, and will solvate the wax, keeping the chamber cleaner than it would if dry wax/gunpowder was allowed to accumulate. I have done this several times for shooters using Walther P22's, got them back and running in short order.

Sometimes when gunk builds up under the extractor, sporadic failures to extract occur. The only two times I've ever personally witnessed this, the firearms were chambered in .22LR.
