I got some surprising results. I tested 4 cartridges today. 2 commercial loads 2 hand loads.

Palmetto State Armory upper, 16” barrel, with a 1/7 twist.

Used a caldwell rifle rest. Cold day, snowing, windy.

Winchester white box. Average velocity 3093 FPS. 5 shot group @ 100 yds 3 3/4 inches. Cost $.60 a round.

PMC X TAC. Average velocity 2997 FPS. 5 shot group 1 7/8 @ 100 yds. Cost $.54 per round.

Hand load 26.5 grains Ramshot TAC powder, Winchester small rifle primer, 55 grain hornady FMJ, and once fired brass. Average velocity 3157 FPS. 5 shot group 1 5/8 @ 100 yds. Cost $.36 per round.

Hand load 26 grains Ramshot TAC powder, Winchester small rifle primer, 55 grain hornady FMJ, and once fired brass. Average velocity 3134 FPS. 5 shot group 1 3/8 @ 100 yds. Cost $.36 per round.

Most surprising thing is 5.56 hand loads cost $.36 a round.

I have also noticed PMC shooting half of the group size compared to WWB, in multiple ARs. Never messed with TAC, but have had good results with H4895, CFE223, and Shooters World Precision Rifle in .223

I have always wanted to take a look a shooters world, I think i’ll try that next.

Well, I bought 3 pounds by accident. I had been watching for MATCH Rifle for about a year, since I haven't seen H4895 in 4. Graf's advertised a bunch of powder available, and I had a CRS moment and bought the wrong one. My R700 .30/06 hated the Precision Rifle, but my son's Howa1500 .30/06 liked it, and it worked well in both of our .223s.

TAC is my go to propellant with 40-55 grain bullets in 223. That said the factory bullet choice in the WWB is junk. You are seeing a better load with a better quality bullet. Nobody ever won a match with plinking quality ammo consistently. I bet an even better quality bullet will shrink your size even more.

I think i’ll see if there is any accuracy difference in Hornady 55 Grain FMJ vs Everglades Ammo 55 Grain FMJ Version 2.0

I’m switching over to SW powders generally but TAC is my current light bullet favorite in 223. It shoots tighter than H335 with both 52 grain match bullets and 55 grain FMJ.
