Hoping somebody can help me out with this one. I have a Ruger Model 77 MKII in .243 that I am considering selling. I just don't know what a fair price would be. My Dad won it in a gun raffle four or five years ago. He then retired his Model 70 from hunting duty and started carrying the Ruger. It's the standard model, blued finish, 22" barrel, walnut stock. Ruger model number is 7816. It's 98%. Probably not even 25 rounds through it, and not a mark on it. Scope is a Leupold Vari-X II, 3-9x40, I believe the scope has the matte finish.

I'm keeping all of my Dad's other guns. I don't have an emotional attachment to this one, though, and I'm sure my Mom could use the money for something.

Can somebody give me a good idea what a fair price would be?

Thanks.

Well, the rifle is roughly about 470 bucks NIB now, so a five year old rifle with some light use would be somewhere south of that - not sure the exact price, check the Blue Book of Gun Values to be sure. Personally, I'd pay 350-445 dollars, depending on how nice the rifle is.

The scope is a bit over 300 bucks (say 330) NIB right now, so obviously yours will be less. You might be surprised what people will pay for it, though, if it's in good condition.

I'd guess "retail" would be around $600. It should actually move at around $500 to $550. But, like I say, a guess.

I bought a like-new Mk II for $400 out of a gunshop, with a Tasco on it, but the storeowner was sort of a buddy. The old Leupold Vari-X IIs were sold at closeout at around $200...

Thanks guys, that gives me a good idea of what it's worth.
The condition of the rifle is such that if somebody where to hand it to you, and then hand you one directly out of the box, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Same deal with the scope.

If I decide to sell it, I'll figure somewhere between $500 and $600.

.243 Ruger

Timing can be everything. With hunting season over in most areas the above pricing may be a tad high . I hope you can get it but I know in our part of Florida this time of year those prices would be difficult to get until August or September. Please don't misunderstand me ,the rifle/scope as you describe it are worth every cent. Good luck!
