I need some input from you all; I'm thinking or purchasing a STG58 FAL for $879.00 . This rifle is in excellent shape, new never fired, military reciever with surplus parts. It has a Bi-pod too.

Is this a good price?

Yes, A LOT more info is needed. Military receiver? DO you mean original condition STG? If so, that's several thousand to cheap. Military style receiver? If so, what kind. Imbel? Century? FAC? DSA? If so, then that's about right for a DSA but too high for the others.

FAC has the DSA STG-58A (DSA receiver & required US parts + STG58 parts kit) rifles for $795 (maybe temporarily out of stock).

You'll have to pay shipping and an FFL transfer fee. That will probably total $35 to $50 for an in your hands cost of $830 to $845.

Back to your question:

You need to know who made the receiver, and who assembled the rifle before you consider it. Then, they should be able to answer some questions about how many and what U.S. parts are on the gun. All the answers better be very favorable for that price to be acceptable.

The reciever is DSA, and the seller says it is built with mil-surp parts. It is also a shorter barrel. 18" I believe.

He also had on built with new parts on the same reciever minus the bi-pod for $1200.00.

BTW for financial reasons this is probably gonna be the last military style semi-auto I buy.{these here gun things can really get expensive!}

some other considerations: A VEPR in 7.62x39 for 599.00

And a 16"Bushmaster with the phony collapsible stock in 223. for 799.00

Also how much $$ could I save by building an AR??

Good receiver, and stg kit guns can be rather nice. 7.62nato was running cheaper than 223 surplus at the last show i attended.

$800 is probably a bit much tho.

There is a 16" mock-collapseable stock for $450. add another $120 for a river rock arms receiver and your done. Only thing you'll have to assemble is the lower, the upper will come pre-built.

Assy by a competant smith and refinish $200.00 +

I'd buy it at that price, it's most likely the STG58C version from DSA, and dealer price on those are $799.00

the former isnt too bad, but might be a touch high. the latter is a good deal.

I'd jump on it either way.

95% of the STG kits that came in had less than 50% wear, with a large majority of them being virtually unused. I ordered one back in 99, and have it assembled into a Carbine with 16.25" barrel, and it functions well. (Gear logo Imbel receiver)

The STG in the picture I posted is DSA's "Parts gun", and from his description, this is most likely what his dealer has.

I'd venture to say that the other rifle he described for $1200.00 is a SA58, DSA's US new production weapon.

Either a homebuilt one or the DSA parts gun would be a average value if purchased inthe $750-850.00 range, as this is what they'd bring anywhere else.

I'd jump on it, FAL parts kits are drying up, and prices are going up..... Only a matter of time before they all are near $1000.00 for one....

I assembled a "FrankenFal" Izzy on a DSA G1 parts kit with a FAC supplied Coonan U.S. made receiver, Izzy wood furniture, U.S. made internals, and other assorted parts from Tapco.com.

If you build up from a kit, you can't go wrong with DSA.

Whomever you purchase your rifle from, get some sort of certificate or letter detailing the required U.S. parts that must be substituted to make it legal.
