Favorite .45

Had you not specified the bbl length you did, I'd have said 1911, SAA, G21.

As it is, I guess I'll go with a Combat Commander.

Mine is a M&P45c with an apex sear and Truglow TFO sights. I am more accurate with that pistol than any other 45 I have ever owned. I sure would like to have a S&W 625 some day before I leave the planet though, the ones that I have shot were wonderful shooters.

Just want to see what everyone's favorite .45 with a barrel less than 4.25" is

What I find interesting about this thread is the number of posters who don't know the barrel length of their 45.

How about an old 1917 Army Colt with a short barrel?

Or a Ruger P345
I think that's all I have under 4.25"

We'll I was issued a 1911 .45ACP back in 1965 by the Good ole USMC and to this day still think highly of this design! These days I carry one of my Colt Combat Commanders often. Over the years I have added other .45ACP Autos to my gun safe and carry them occasionally - Ruger, HK, SIG, etc. However, Gen. Wally Green would come back from wherever he is to kick me in the rear if I did not Maintain my preference for "Old Slab Sides". :D

I used to have a Star PD and I agree it carried very well. Not terrible to shoot but a bit snappy given the alloy frame and very light weight. Right now the only .45 ACP I have is a USP45 Tactical (and I have a USP45 on the way) but the barrel is longer than the 4.25" the OP spec'd.

Generically I guess I'd maybe pick the Colt Commander. Those (and the various clones) are very nice guns, probably my favorite size for a 1911. Although I've never actually held one I imagine any Wilson in that size range would rock.

Probably if someone was gonna buy me any .45 ACP handgun I wanted I'd choose an HK45CT.

A 6" barreled Model 25-2, chopped to 3 1/4." It still acts like it is still a TARGET revolver!!!

A Colt Officers Model Enhanced and a Para LDA Carry 3" otherwise the original 629 Mountain Gun 44 Mag. comes along. If you put 44 Specials in it it's like a 45.
That'll liven things up!:neener:

I would have answered Combat Commander until I got my hands a 220 carry. Now its too close to call.

H & K USPc 45 stainless. I just got it, and have not fired it yet. It's what I was looking for, and is currently my favorite. (I have had a full size USP 45 stainless before). wyatte

My S&W 1911 if we're talking .45 Auto. Honestly, the only weapon I buy in .45 ACP anymore are 1911's. I don't believe the the .45 out performs the .40 when you factor in capacity. If we're just talking .45, well then my .454 Super Redhawk would get the vote :)

I have a number of .45acp handguns but these two are my favorites.

I like the commander length 1911's. They are very balanced to me. I like that they still use the gi style recoil spring, rather than a bull barrel like the shorter 1911's.

I had and XDs that I liked but it got replaced with a 1911.
