I use Winchester primers for everything I load for. Am considering experimenting with different primers on some powders in certain rifle calibers but I just have not done it yet.

Federal 215's for the rifle.

CCI 300's for the Kimber .45. Heard they were "hard", but never had a misfire in 8000 rounds.....even with a 17lb mainspring.

For years I used CCIs for rifle because about half of what I shoot is in front of floating firing pins. I still use my current stash of them, but due to some light strikes with a 30/30, I'll probably use Winchester next.
I've always used Winchesters for handguns and shotguns. They have a medium hardness, and usually fall in the middle to high end as far as brisance or power. The other deciding factor is that for some reason, in my area, Federal and particularly Remington primers seem to run about $1-3 more per 1000 than Winchesters.

STATIC (in my head)

Primers ARE different, and carefully controlled experimentation can explore those differences.

I had some CCI's from the mid-70's I've used; no probs.
I used some R-P's in a 40 S&W 'accuracy' load.
I've had some CCI's fail to explode in certain 'tweaked' revolvers.
I've used some WLP's in 'nukes' that DID NOT ignite the powder as fully as certain other primers.
I've never had a Federal primer fail in any application, except when it failed as a gasket LOL.
I have some primers on my shelf that came from their package missing some parts (yes, each one is inspected).

I love primers, but: WARNING, PRIMERS WILL EXPLODE.

Never used anything but Winchester. Don't load any rifle calibers, just pistol - WSP & WLP.

I use Winchester in everything. When people learn that I am running my AR-15 highpower rounds with Winchester SR primers, they roll their eyes and tell me I'm only time away from blowing out primers at "highpower" loads. However, I don't push too hard on my loads, so I don't honestly expect to see any problems.

As of yet, I've only tried CCI. Of course, I've only ever loaded 60 rounds of 7.7 Jap and primed 492 rounds of .45 ACP (haven't finished that batch yet, though). So far, I haven't had any seating problems with them.

Primers

For all of my thousands of reloading customers I recommended Federal #1 to be used for the reliability and the 25 yard Bullseye range and then Winchester being a little hotter for the 50 yard Bullseye range. Remington primers were always too expensive for my commercial business but have a good reputation and especially in the far north when subjected to extremes of temperature going in and out of a snowed in cabin in a rifle..

Of the dozens of primers explosions I investigated in progressive reloaders thay all happened with CCI [rimers so I have never recommended them since shortly after they were invented.

When you buy cheap you get what you pay for. I have wondered if they are the rejects from the other companies.
