Federal Fusion Lite .30-06 150gr

For young shooters. I hand loaded some 30-06 loads for my brother so his daughter could hunt with his 30-06. Loaded down to about 300 Savage levels the recoil was very tolerable even for my niece.
For me, then I agree. I bought a 30-06 and want 30-06 power levels.
I have no actual experience with this factory load. My only concern would be if the bullet they use is designed to expand at such a slow speed. I noted that they are showing around 1700 fps at 100 yards. Fine for round nose 30-30 bullets, but most pointed bullets designed for the 30-06 etc. need about 1800 fps at impact for good expansion.

No kids here and recoil isn't an issue. It's more about avoiding overkill and excessive meat damage. Will this loading not help with that?

Mike1234567, although I reload my hunting ammo, I do like Federals, but having said that it really all depends.....
Using the link that you provided check out the stats for that product, especially velocity and energy at various distances.
Now pick another sample such as SIERRA Game King and compare velocity and energy at the same distance.
If you know where you'll be shooting and are sure of the distances involved, the "Lite" may be OK, but moving out a few yards maybe not.

Probably, but there are other alternatives that will still allow you to use the full power of a 30-06. While 30-30 class loads certainly work for normal deer hunting and ranges, you never know when you might need to reach out farther, or hunt something larger.
#1, don't shoot them where there is edible meat. I don't care how badly the lungs are torn up. I don't eat that part anyway and it is the largest vital organ that will result in a dead animal. Might not be DRT, but they won't go far.
Bullet construction determines how much damage is done. Some expand violently and do a lot of damage. Using a tougher bullet, or heavier bullet will probably destroy less meat.
If you are not concerned about recoil I'd be looking at bullet choices rather than velocity.

I've never seen the 30-06 version but I have seen it in action in 308 version.
My friend's 12 y/o son uses them in his Savage rifle. Earlier this year he shot a 170 lb. sow from +/- 90 yards. The bullet entered low just behind the left shoulder and exited out the front right side. The hog dropped on the spot. More recently he shot a 210 lb. boar from +/-120 yards. It hit center of neck and he too dropped on the spot. Upon examination the bullet had completely penetrated the neck including part of the spine.
The ammo works pretty much like 30-30 150gr ammo.
My only concern with this ammo is that some rifles will shoot decent groups (about 2" at 100 yards) but some rifles will only give 3-4" group. I have yet to see great groups with this ammo but seen several poor groups.
There are other options if you reload but if you don't it's a acceptable solution to some problems.

RE larger game: The only larger/tougher critters here are feral hogs and I have heavier/beefier loads for them.
RE maximum distance: Probably within 100 yds but "maybe" out to 200. I'm not steady enough to risk taking a longer shot. I won't take the chance of merely wounding an animal.
RE avoid damaging edible meat: Yes, broad shot to the heart/lungs. I don't care for ribs anyway.
RE bullet type: I have Federal Power-Shok soft point in weights from 125-220 grain. The 150gr Fusion Lite would be primarily for Whitetail and small hogs plus coyote if one wanders within range. I'd also like to minimize the possibility of collateral damage... I'd never use a 220gr bullet on whitetail unless I had no other choice due to excessive pass-through velocity/energy.
RE accuracy: I'll be testing all loads in my rifle. Any inconsistent ammo will be sold or traded.
