So watcha think? I'm happy with it. it took alot of blood sweat and beer to get through it. I almost gave up several times but i persevered through and it was worth it!!! so now I will sow you what it took for me to finish this build and when I mean build, I mean build! I took it completely apart done to the last screw!!! then i replaced all the screws with the screw upgrade kit from rrages.

Ok, Getting started

Well this all started from my original paint job running when I sprayed it with clp and yes it was clp. Anyways the gun started looking like th before I started.

Then I had to take off the rest of it before I could paint it myself so I went to lowes and bought some citristripper.

the reason I got this is because it said it was gentle and I was kinda afraid of some of the other strippers and how they would be on the metal of the gun. anyways it worked really good.

This and some 220 grit sandpaper got almost all of it off, and yes it took several days to get it all the way stripped down.

next painting

so after I stripped the paint all the way off I proceeded to paint it. Now originally I wanted to do a duracoat tiger stripe but after thinkin about it. I'm not gonna take this ting anywhere but the range so I doesn't need a $100 paint job. So I went to walmart and got a can of Krylon ultraflat camo paint.

I put 5 coats of this before I ran out of paint, then after I let it cure I took a can of Rustoleum enamel protectant in flat black and gave it another 4 coats till that can ran out.

this is the end product before reassembly.

this is it after reasembly before the stock and forgrip where reinstalled. Also this is when I did the screw upgrade and to be honest putting it back together took me about 12 hours. It was the biggest pain in the butt ever. This is when I almost gave up because I was having such a hard time.

so next I reassemble it and added a little rail mount and a cheap red dot along with a mag clamp for the ultimate mall ninja attachment lol.

so I did all this and I haven't even shot the gun yet. :( yeah its sad I know but I haven't had time yet. I plan to next week though so I'll get a range report in when I do. But now I have a couple questions for yall. I wanna sbr this thing cause I love the way it looks but my question is. If I sbr it will that make the fake suppressor a "real" one and make me a felon? or should I go ahead and put in for a suppressor then sbr it or is it just to much trouble altogether?

BigBang, good writeup and thanks for the pictures! The pics really make it easier to understand what you are describing.
The rrages screw kit upgrade looks like a good thing to install. What is your impression/opinion of the screw upgrade kit?
Nice job, and thanks for your help, Buckshot Bill

Yea the screw upgrade is way worth it. It just makes the gun feel sturdier. Although it is a royal B!*#% it took me probably 4 hours to do all the screws and get it back together one thing to watch out for if you do it is the mag lever. Make sure that you put the mag lever spring in correctly other wise when you put a mag in you'll have to manually push the back side close so it'll hold the mag in. Yea imagine taking almost 4 hours to put the gun back together then realize the magwell isn't engaging and you have to take the gun back apart.:cuss: I literally cried in my beer! but all is good now the gun actually shoots great I was surprised at how well the cheap red dot worked. It's the first time I've ever shoot with any optic before and my groups where super tight at 50 yards.:D

I am amazed that any gun could take 10 coats of paint and still be put back together. Either you sprayed the lightest coats of paint ever, or that gun has looser tolerances than a, well you get it.

They were really light coats just barely enough to cover the gun. I was trying to get the most even coat possible. even then if I took it back apart the part the paint would be gone where the parts touch. I put a cheap nc star red dot. I figured for a .22 I didn't need a $100 red dot. $30 bucks works well. Besides theres no recoil so I doubt it'll lose zero

Replaced the screws on the GSG-5...had the thing back together and found out due to working the slide that something was catching the bolt and preventing it from going to full retract. Had to remove the bolt carried screws and found that a tiny metal tab had been installed down instead of up inside the carrier thus stopping the bolt from going back fully. Now I wonder who did that!!?? Anyway the screw replacement is finished and it divinity registered extremely low on my fun meter.

I ordered a new 4 position collapsible stock and installed the TSR-25 red dot which seems to co-witness with the front sight better than I expected. The screw set did make a difference in the feel of the weapon.
