I've had a Bushmaster AR15 in .450 Bushmaster for quite a few years but finally got around to getting a Ruger American Ranch rifle too. I could have chosen the Go Wild Camo model with the burnt bronze Cerakote finish and 22" barrel but the 16" barrel will work better with the SilencerCo Hybrid 46 suppressor I already have.

I've had a Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x TMR 30mm tube laying around for years so this should be a nice little package with the rifle, scope and suppressor. I'm really excited about this.

Longer barrels work better (quieter) with the suppressor due to lower muzzle exit pressures. I have shot subsonic 450 Bushmaster, the same load, through both a 16-inch & 20-inch 450 with a Hybrid 46 and the 20-inch was noticably quieter.

Remington 405 gr JSP resized from .458 to .452 pushed to 1050 from a 20- inch 450 barrel.

Was the 20" barrel faster and what powder were you using? Also, is this from an AR?

I have a lot of Remington 260gr bonded Accutips and a lot of 405gr .458 cal JSPs along with the dies to swage them down to .45 cal.

Depending on how much I like this rifle, I might get the 22" model as well.

Mine has taken two deer in the last two years. Last time I saw a box of Hornady black ammo (I believe it was at bass pro) it was above $40 a box. I wish they had iron sights though.

I have a couple of boxes of Hornady ammo but will be reloading for this one. I have thousands of pieces of primed brass, thousands of bullets, plenty of powder etc. This is just a fun gun for me with no expectations other than to have a good time with it. These 260gr bonded Accutips would make for a decent hunting or large animal defense round. I'll be playing with these as well as some Remington 405gr .458 cal JSPs.

Awwww they're so cute with their little green hats!

Can’t wait to see a range report

Here is my range report for mine before I sent it back for “accuracy” issues. Namely, excessive throat length. The shown target was shot from 40 yds also. This Was the best group from 4 different factory ammo offerings.

Haven’t got it back to the range since them to see if it tightened up with a new barrel Ruger installed.

It does make for an incredibly light package though.

Yeah, I'm not convinced that "excessive" throat length would give those results. My Talkeetna has a .250" bullet jump and it'll dump five rounds into sub .65" at 100 yards. There's way too much put into the importance of bullets touching lands.

What were the lead and throat measurements of the original barrel?

It probably does better now because “Ruger always makes it right”. First new gun I ever bought….

Must be because it was wrong handed.

Not trying to be pissy but having worked in this industry for the last 10 years I've seen first hand that we never really know why a rifle barrel doesn't shoot well unless it's slap you in the face obvious. There are so many things that can go wrong in the process and no company I've worked for is interested in figuring out why a barrel won't shoot. It's always put down to a shoulder shrug followed by a new barrel.

Cool. I have a great deal of respect for the 450BM as a pig buster. In bush hunts and from blinds it is very effective on hogs large and small. I like the handiness of that Ruger. Good luck.

Rifle showed up but I completely overlooked the need for an adapter for the Hybrid 46 suppressor so have ordered a couple of the SilencerCo ASR muzzle brakes so that I can move the Hybrid between the Ruger and an AR15 also chambered for the .450 Bushmaster.

So here's a mini review for this Ruger American Ranch Rifle chambered in .450 Bushmaster. Short version: I really like this rifle but wish it had a locking bolt handle.

I removed the Picatinny rail, cleaned the screws, applied blue Loctite and torqued them to 18 in-lb. I used a pair of Kimber marked steel rings I had laying around and had to spend a minute or two lapping the lower halves after installing on the rail and torquing the 1/2" nut to 45 in-lb. The magazine that shipped with the rifle snaps in with a positive click whereas the two I bought from Ruger's website last week are a little spongy sounding. I tested feeding, extraction and ejection with all three magazines and they seem to work well despite the incredible amount of fore/aft room in the magazine. The trigger pull as shipped is very nice and probably 2-1/2 lb. The barrel looked a little dirty but nothing terrible so I decided to bore sight and shoot a few rounds to get the scope zeroed.

Here's the rifle with a Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x mounted.

50 yards
I bore sighted at 50 yards using Hornady 250gr FTX ammunition and shot the 3-round group show on the left. Not bad, so I dialed right 3.5 moa but decided to leave the elevation where it was since the 50 yard target is below my shooting position and the 100 yard target above. The rifle beat me up a bit shooting at a downward angle.

100 yards
I moved the target to 100 yards and decided to again aim at the center large diamond figuring that the bullets would land somewhere below the diamond. The next three shots were #4 through #6 landing within about a 1/2" group a minute high and a minute left .... whoa!! I thought I saw the first shot land just on the outer edge of the diamond but couldn't see the other two shots with the 5X scope. I went inside, got my 10X binoculars and then could see what looked like a ragged hole.

To finish up I shot one more 3-shot group without a scope adjustment but this time aiming at the lower right diamond. This is too small of a data set but it might go to show the importance of matching the target to the optic if shooting groups. The Special Purpose Reticle (SPR) in combination with 5X max magnification and my eyes makes it easier for me to get a consistent point of aim with the larger diamond compared to the smaller one, and the results seem to bear this out.

Anyway, 9 shots away and I couldn't be much happier with how this is going. It will be great to shoot with the Hybrid on the end of the barrel. I found the rifle to be very nice to shoot at the 100 yard target but not so much at the 50 yard target due to the position of the butt in my shoulder. As shown above the rifle weighs 7lb 10oz.

Your making me want one.....I just traded my ffl buddy my carbon 6.5 for......stuff.....might try bully him into adding one of these to the stuff.......

It's a cool little rifle and I think the fun meter will be maxed out with the Hybrid 46. Hopefully the ASR brake will be here soon. I've been thinking about getting a Ruger Scout rifle for years, ever since they were introduced actually, and this experience might push me over the edge. This one in particular interests me.

Wish those stainless ones came in 450.......

That scout in .308 would be a slick little option for sure. I really liked my Hawkeye, just never got used to/don't like the feel of wing safeties, otherwise I'd probably have a couple more.

I am curious why Ruger does not make this with the AR magazine feature like the 350 legend or at least an AICS Mag of which they also have a version of.

Either way, I do like the close to flush fitting magazine idea but as you noted the magazines themselves are a bit inconsistent. I have not had a problem from mine feeding but I do nite the same issues.

@LoonWulf They have made the Ruger Scout Rifle in stainless chambered in 450BM. Alas, as Ruger is good for with their most interesting offerings, it was only available for a limited time as a distributor exclusive. There may even have been a few different runs. I remember a laminate stock version as I owned one for a time but it seems like there was a black synthetic as well and possibly wood too. If they ever offer one in lefty I will be all over it like white on rice. I have thought about buying the lefty RSR in .308 and converting it to 450.

I'd buy the current .450 BM model shown below if it came with a synthetic stock that's an option on the .308 Win and 350 Legend models, but as it stands, I can see a .308 Win version in my future.
