Good day all

Let me present to you my latest acquisition one of the Ruger 450 bushmaster Americans. I've yet to shoot it but my first impression is very favorable as far as the smoothness of the action and the outright fantastic trigger. The stock feels nice and sturdy and the rifle handles with a nice graceful feel all in all a vastly superior offering to those 77/revolver caliber rifles I've owned previously.

I plan to shoot a bunch of handloads cast and jacketed so I'd love to hear from others already shooting these. IMG_7161.JPG

Looks good. I quite like this rifle even though I would be hard pressed to define a use for it. I have a Handi Rifle chambered in 454 Casull and the ballistics are very similar with the 250 FTX but a bolt gun would be better. Look forward to a range report and congratulations!

One of these are on my "short list" so i look foward to hearing of your shooting experience. Accuracy and recoil being top of my curiosity.

Thanks and hope u enjoy it

Neat, these seem to be twisted tight enough for heavier subsonic loads. Are you intending to use it as a suppressed subsonic thumper?

Very nice. I have a .450 Bushmaster AR15 but if I didn't this would be on my short list. I've started working up subsonic loads for mine but yours will be easier if that's what you plan to do since you aren't trying to move a bunch of stuff with expanding gas. Trailboss powder works well for sub sonic loads and H110 is good for supersonic loads. I'm using hard cast, jacketed and bonded bullets in the 260gr to 360gr range. Are you planning on a supressor for yours? The Hybrid from SilencerCo is a great choice if you're interested in getting one, assuming that you haven't already got something.

I certainly like the idea of an affordable suppressed bolt action thumper. I'll admit I'm a bit puzzled over the choice of thread pitch they chose for the muzzle.

11/16"-24? Does anyone besides Bowers even offer a mount in that pitch? There's no reason they couldn't have gone with 5/8"-24, I have a .458 SOCOM threaded that way and it works just fine. If I know Ruger, the lawyers probably made them do it so some moron couldn't screw on a .30 caliber brake and then sue them when it blew up.

Edit: Nevermind, it looks like Silencero actually sells mounts in that pitch as well.

100 yard group of the Hornady 250g FTX Black factory load. IMG_2588.JPG

Put a Boyds Laminated Thumbhole stock on it. IMG_2660.jpg

Has a 4 power Millett DMS1 IMG_2661.jpg

Shoots well....not a big recoil type rifle. I did not need it but wanted it to use on Hogs.

Looks good with the Boyds stock, nice group too. It seems to like the Hornady Black.

Do you think the recoil would be too much for a 13-14yr old boy? Is it about like your avg 12ga?

Ruger has a winner with the American series. I don't have any practical use for one in 450, but I do applaud Ruger for offering the gun in that caliber. I can see where it would be a good choice for a lot of people. I have Predators in 6.5 Creed and 308 as well as a carbine in 223. They are the 3 most accurate rifles in my safe, and I have more money in some individual rifles than all 3 of the Rugers combined.

It is about like a 20 gage with slugs...

It's a good choice for those people who live in states that permit only straight-walled cartridges for deer hunting.

Anybody shooting one of those suppressed? That's my only real interest in the package.
