Finally got my XDs the way I want it

The final two items that I have been wanting for my XDs .45 arrived the other day, a Talon grip and CT Laserguard. So far, I added Ameriglo night sights, custom back plate, Talon grip, and the Laserguard. I will be going to the range shortly to try the Laserguard out and make sure it is sighted in.

This gun is my EDC, and I love it so far. It has had the recall performed, and I have now shot around 500 rounds through it. It is reliable and very accurate, as well as being comfortable to carry and easy to conceal.

How did the Laserguard work out? I have a CTC grip on my Ruger LCR but haven't tried a laser on any of my Springfields.

The Laserguard is great so far, but I haven't shot with it yet. Heading to the range soon to sight it in. It fits perfectly. I did get the updated version with the wings on it near the rail mount point. Apparently the older version without the wings would lose zero because the laser would move side to side.

I did change the sights out myself using a sight pusher that I have. The XDs sights were easy, but the same sight pusher would not budge the sights on my XD-9 or XDm .45. I sent those two out to be replaced.

Lastly, I purchased the back plate from ndzperformance on ebay. They are American made parts, and very high quality. I have purchased from them before. They have hundreds of different designs available.

Powder River just released their spring kit for the XDs, that's supposed to bring the trigger pull down to something reasonable.

I just tried to measure the trigger pull of my factory (post recall) XDs with a Lyman digital gauge, which reads up to 12 pounds. Couldn't do it. The pull is OVER 12 pounds. I'll be putting that spring kit in as soon as I can.

Other than a horrendously heavy trigger pull, I love my XDs. Great carry gun.

That is way too heavy for any carry gun. If it were me, I would bite the suck and send it back to Springfield to get the pull reduced. Send a picture of what your scale reads and what it SHOULD read from some documentation. I had to send a S&W back for heavy trigger pull (15+ pounds) and got it back with a note saying it was in spec...NOPE!

Hope to get an XD-s after the new year. Won't know what toys I will want on it until after I handle it a bit..

IdahoHk416, can you tell me more about the night sights? Is it a set made specially for the XDs or is it the same as for other XD models? Many types of night sights that people have tried on the XDs that were designed for other XD models are too wide, sit too high, or override the rear of the XDs slide, but those look perfect. Also, did it change your point of aim from the factory sights? Thanks.

herrwalther... yes, that IS too heavy. I'm already taking care of that with a spring kit that should lower it to ~5.5 lbs. (for those interested, do a BING search for Powder River Precision). If I sent it back to Springfield I'm confident the same thing would happen that you had happen with S&W. I won't waste the time.

All of that being said... I have 3 friends with XDs pistols also, and all trigger pulls are about the same. The pistol does its job very well; after all, it is not a range gun. It is for personal protection and it's easy to put 6 rounds in center mass at any reasonable distance. 2 of those buddies have already ordered the spring kit... once mine is installed, I'll post my results for anyone interested. Sorry if I hi-jacked the thread. You can have it back now!

WYO, the Ameriglo night sights that I have on my XDs fit either a Sig or XD, since they share the same dovetail. These are Sig #8 sights, which are the same height as XD "G" marked sights, so the POI is the same as the stock sights I removed.

When looking for night sights, I looked at many before settling on this set. I decided to order them and see how they looked in person. The sights ended up looking great on the XDs, and fit the overall look of the gun really well compared to other sights.

In my opinion, a carry gun such as the XDs should have a heavy trigger pull. I wouldn't want 15#, but somewhere between 7 and 12 would be ideal for me. 4 to 6# on a 1911 is one thing, but not on an XDs.

I have two of these, a 9mm and a .40 Cal. I installed the Powder River roll pins in both after hearing about breakage from dry fire.

What are you using for a holster. I use a remora, and was afraid that with a laser it would be too large to pocket carry?

A couple replies... yes I agree that a carry trigger pull should be between 7 and 12 pounds or so. My XDs is OVER 12 pounds. It is okay to shoot, but I have to tell you, my finger hurts after a few magazines at the range. I hope the spring kit cures that.

I actually have 3 holsters, and 3 opinions to go with them:

1. a custom Wild Bill's Concealment paddle holster that's gorgeous and works great. I love it, but I'm used to paddle holsters and this manufacturer makes a very nice one. I have 4 of his, for different guns.

2. a Galco IWB holster. It's okay, but my physique is not made for an IWB holster. If I never had to sit down, I'd like it a lot more but I don't like standing all the time.

3. the kydex paddle holster that comes with the XDs is actually very comfortable, concealable, light, and easy to use. The only reason I don't use it all the time is, I really like my leather one, previously described.

When I ordered the Laserguard, I ordered the package deal that came with a pocket holster. I also ordered a holster on ebay to try by Braids. It is made for the XDs with a Laserguard.

So far, both holsters have been great. When I pocket carry my XDs, it is only in the summer time, and I carry it in the cargo pocket of my shorts. Any other time, I carry it IWB. I was pretty surprised with the quality of the Braids holster. He uses Herman Oak leather, which is top notch.
