After recieving a letter reminding me to renew my license I finally did it. The Arizona Dept of Public Safety sent me a reminder in the mail which suprised me. I knew it was coming up for renewal but not this soon.

Had to take a 2 hour class, shoot 10 rounds and send the state $65 bucks. The class cost $40.

As of today its a done deal. Now I'm waiting on the new license to come back. Mine expires on the 19th of Dec. No problems there cause I have my Fla license and can open carry if need be.

Oh yea, I left my target ammo at the house by accident. Good thing I had 3 mags of ammo (1 in the gun and 2 spares) on the hip.

Couple of things I noticed in the class.

1) Out of 12 people only 2 of us were carrying.

2) The majority of the folks there admitted to carrying maybe 15% of the time.

3) Most did not have a plan of some sort for home defense or personal defense.

4) One patron had to rent a gun cause she didnt want to bring her .25 with her.

Overall, I like the changes that Arizona made to its renewal course. 2 hours, 10 shots, last time I have to get fingerprinted when renewing and the license is good for 5 years.

Lennyjoe, your observations are about on a par with what I've found out about most of the CPL-holders up here ... seems only about 5 percent claim they carry all the time; I've actually hear folks say they have CPLs just in case they might need 'em (I still don't understand why someone would have one and not carry) ... wonder what they're waiting for?

Washington doesn't remind us our CPLs are expiring ... but, renewal is still only 35 bucks (for 5 years, same as AZ), get the new license same day, don't even have to take a class for initial issue nor do any actual shooting ...

I typically only am able to carry on weekends, and if I go out for errands in the evenings. My employer, like practically all large companies, and most small ones too for that matter, force you to agree to disarm before entering company property as a condition of employment.

You could argue that I could leave my gun in the car while at work, but two things stop that from being a good idea. First is that cars have been stolen from the parking lot, including my boss's. Given that my car was just stolen earlier this week (from my driveway, thankfully I got it back - sans stereo, child seat, and the watch that was in the glove box, plus some other minor damage but otherwise intact) I'm rather sensitive to that possibility. Second, although there's attempts going on to eliminate this, the company right now can fire me if I were to have a weapon in the car while parked on the company lot (and there's not a whole lot of other parking options).

I would say thats true just from people i talk too

I'm not surprised. My office used to collect the money for CCW applications and renewals in the Sheriff's Department. Most of the folks told me, "I only carry when I'm on trips."

I really didn't care when they chose to carry, but I found it odd that they only perceived a need for self-defense on trips. I also found it odd they felt a need to justify their qualified need to me, as if part-time carry was more honorable and acceptable than full-time carry.

Good stuff Lenny - another 5 years ahead of good concealment.:)
"I only carry when I'm on trips."
This never fails to amaze me - I am a 16/7 CCW and cannot find a way (yet) to make an appointment for emergencies.

I'd love to ask these folks whether they might leave their spare tire at home any day - because for some reason they just knew that day they'd not get a flat!!! For folks who wear a wrist watch - leave it home sometimes - because they know they won't want to tell the time??

For me - I want that piece where it belongs so - that if in the million to one chance I should need it - it is there by default when I reach down - instead of thinking - ''oh crap - left it at home" !!

Stay safe fella.

I'm the same way Chris. I always have my CCW on when I'm not in uniform. Vulnerable to, at and from work and whenever I'm in uniform off base.

If I'm not in uniform then I'm armed.
