I know, I know - there are probably about 1e13 threads about the G17 on the internet...so he is 1e13 + 1
I bought my GLOCK in August and finally have gotten into a nice groove of going to the range. Zero problems with the gun and I have tried 4 different ammo brands, listed below in order of accuracy (best to worst)
UMC 115gr FMJ
UMC 115gr JHP
WWB 115gr FMJ
Monarch (barnaul produced, steel case) 115gr FMJ
The UMC was the best, yesterday I put 45 out of 50 shots in a 6" circle at 15 yards. The 5 outside the circle were certainly my fault. Compare that to the 3 boxes of Monarch which would put 25 out of 50 in a 6" circle at 15 yards. I should have mic'd the Monarch ammo, I suspect that either it is undersized or more likely the steel doesn't expand as much as brass does so there is more "slop" in the chamber. In either case the Monarch was less accuract plus the Monarch was SUPER dirty, it took me 30 minutes to get the gun cleaned out.
I also learned the GLOCK trigger reset (with the help of another G17 shooter at the range who gave me a couple of tips - Thanks!). That helped me improve both my speed and accuracy shooting the gun.
In all I would say that it is the best $500 I have ever spent on a gun. Reliable and accurate is a very good summary. No regrets going with 9mm either, I would never be able to shoot as much as I do if I went with a larger caliber, both cost and fatigue.
