I just got back from shooting in my first .22 bullseye match (first two really). I now wonder why I didn't find a club shooting bullseye sooner. I had a great time. It is tough but fun. The match was 2 strings of slow/timed/rapid for a possible 600 points. I used my Ruger MKII government target model with iron sites. The first match I shot a 477 -3x, when they ran the second relay they let me shoot for next week too.( out of town next week) I managed a 503 -9x in that match. My scores may be awful or they may be good I have no idea. I did have fun, realized how much of a challenge it is and can see how it can be addictive.

Pretty good for your first match. Was this indoors? How rushed were you on the RF strings? Any alibis or saved rounds?

Keep it up. We have a Bullseye thread you should check out for pointers.

It was outside with covered firing position. No alibis or saved rounds. My timed and rapid fire scores were better than slow fire. Slow fire is where I really lost points. Most of my pistol shooting to this point has been IDPA, USPSA, steel and plinking.

Thats AWESOME welcome to the bullseye club.

Most points are lost during rapid and timed mainly because the monkey gets on your back and wants to see how fast he can get you to pull the trigger. Your scores are good you were obviously shooting inside the black a little. You may want to trick your ruger out a little and it could improve your scores, however it will not improve your shooting abilities. Just get out there and practice, also you may want to start testing different types of 22 ammo, believe me it makes a difference to have good ammo.

If you have questions everyone you see in the bullseye thread will help you and if you want to trick your ruger out let us know we can help you spend your money :)

I think I'm gonna leave the gun as is for now. I need to pull out some of my match ammo and do some testing for accuracy. I have gotten better at calling shots and most of my bad ones I knew as soon as I fired. So many types of matches so little time.

There are improvements that can be made to a MKII for very little or no money.

$10 ish, Trapper spring kit. http://www.apwcogan.com/trapper_spring_kits.htm

Free, polish the frame contact side of the disconnector with 2000 grit wet/dry sand paper. Polish the front of the hammer but not the notch. Also sides of the hammer with 2-4000grit.

$64. From Brownells.com, 601-036-104 Target Millett Rear Sight. The rear notch of the Ruger sight is too wide for a target pistol.

You're making a good start. Remember to 'Front Sight Shoot'. That is, focus on the sight blade, align with the rear, the black of the target will be a blur, just keep the blade near center of the blur as best as you can. Trigger control is a steady pull of only the trigger finger until it surprisingly goes bang. Don't make the shot happen by pulling the trigger harder as you see the sight picture improve. Be steady with the pull.

so what sights do you suggest? just swap the rear or front and rear?
