First and Last

The first revolver I brought was a 6" Dan Wesson in 1975, the last was a 4" Smith and Wesson 3rd model hand ejector in 32 Smith and Wesson Long last year.

First and only revolver I have purchases was about a year ago, a S&W 642. However, I want to purchase another revolver and a pocket pistol. My only other handgun is a S&W SD9 VE 9mm.

So two days ago I purchased my second revolver, a S&W 686 Plus. Hogue Tamer grip on the S&W 642 and the previous owner put a Performance Center type grip on the 686 Plus. Here are the two of them:

My first was a S&W Model 18. The most recent was a S&W Model 15.
Between the first one 49 years ago, and the last one (a few weeks ago) I have purchased or traded for a few others. Many of which I still have.

The first revolver I purchased was a S&W MODEL 19 w/4 inch barrel. The last revolver I purchased a month ago was an Uberti 1858 New Model Army. There have been many revolvers in my possession and the only one I have ever sold was a Colt Diamondback that the cylinder was so rough I couldn't shoot a good group at 10 yards. Yep I'm a revolver guy.

My first was a Smith and Wesson Model 19, probably a -4, but I knew nothing about such things in those days. I don't know how many have come and gone over the years...100? Maybe more, including a dozen or so Model 19's. I've sold most of them off now, and am down to a couple of Colt Pythons.

But the last revolver I bought was a Heritage Rough Rider. I just saw it in the case and thought "I don't have a 22 pistol at all." So it came home with me. I haven't fired it yet.

Unless you might want to count this one.

Umarex, "Model 29, 3 1/2 inch barrel, in .177 BB/CO2. I got it (and a couple of other CO2 guns just for grins and giggles.) Made by Umarex under liscense from Smith and Wesson. I was hoping for a 4" barrel, but this looks like it will be as close as they'll come. Since it has a 3 1/2" barrel, I think of it as a Model 27 myself.

I've got one with an 8 3/8" barrel too, but I don't really care for that one.

My first one was a 4" Model 28 back in 1984. I ended up selling it but then bought one just like it later on again.

My second was another 28, a 6", made in 1957-58.

and my last so far was a Model 686-4 6".

Oh, I lied, well actually I forgot. About 50 years ago my first revolver was a 1851 Colt Navy kit that I put together. I had a lot of fun with that thing and it shot good. Seems to me I gave it to a friend of mine.

My first was an Iver Johnson snubbie and it was all I could afford as I was in high school and my source of income was driving a school bus which paid almost nothing in those long ago days. The most recent was a Sar B6 just because I liked the way it fit my hand. Depending on if I find something that really interests me at Saturday's gunshow that "last" may become next to last. Maybe a Ruger single action, a nice da/sa 22 rimfire, or maybe nothing at all.

My first revolver purchase was a Taurus Gaucho in .357, 7.5" barrel. Sweet shooter. That got traded toward my first 1911.

Most recent was a Dan Wesson 15-2 Monson Mass with brief case, belt buckle, shirt patch, 2", 4" and 6" barrels, and barrel tool. Only thing missing was the cylinder gap tool. I don't have any pics on me right now (work) but the bluing is perfect and it does not appear to have been shot much. I can't remember if I got that in 2020 or 2021.

My next revolver will be a 50th birthday momento, and I've been looking at the new Colt Pythons and Anacondas. I am a sucker for a blued Smith though. Some beautiful specimens in this thread!

EDIT: I just realized I posted both in this thread already but these are better pictures, so....

Since I just bought my second revolver last week, I will post both first and last now.

First revolver purchased in May 2021 (S&W 642 with Hogue Tamer grips):

Last (and second) purchased last week (March 2022) S&W 686 Plus with Performance Center grips:

I would love to get a big bore revolver next, thinking 44, S&W Model 69.

First six gun I purchased was an Italian copy of an 1851 Navy but in 44 caliber. I don't remember the manufacturer. It had a brass frame with a stainless barrel. I shot it until the frame developed issues at the back by the hand and it ceased to function.

Latest purchase would be a blued 1971 Colt Detective Special with a 3" barrel and a nickel Smith & Wesson 10-7 round butt 2" barrel that I bought the same day. The Smith is Detroit police marked which is pretty cool.

First was a new H&R 639 .22 Target revolver (in 1979) that was long since traded off. ( No, I don't miss it at all.) . Some 150 revolvers later, the last was this sweet Ruger Vaquero convertible in 45 LC/45 ACP purchased 3 weeks back. I'm pretty sure there won't be an actual "last" revolver for me as long as I'm still breathing.

I’m a Ruger man myself but the S&W 686 Plus Performance Center Model just looks like it belongs in a chest rig in the woods and streams.

I can’t remember my first, and not sure which one was the last one...but one thing I do know, they all have a common denominator. COLT.

First one was an 1858 Remington that was my every day carry but was to big to be concealed. The second and last one for me is the Taurus 856 Defender 3" .38 SPL that my lovely Wife got me. tempImagemsISV2.png tempImageZ3PAuI.png
