I was at the gun show in Portland, Oregon last weekend and picked up a brand-new Ruger Single Six Convertible (22/22 mag) in blued with a 4 5/8" barrel and adjustable sights. I payed $339. I know it's not quite a smokin' deal, but this particular model seems to be hard to find locally. Anyway, I took it out plinking that afternoon and put 100 rounds of 22LR and 24 rounds of 22 mag through it. It worked great and became a tack driver with a few adjustments to the rear sight. Even for a 22, this thing has absolutely no detectable muzzle climb or recoil of any sort. It feels perfect in the hand, has a decent trigger, and looks amazing. I'm very happy with the gun and plan to take it with me every time I go shooting. My buddy and I are going on a 2-night backpacking hike up in the Mt. Hood National Forest in a few weeks and I'm packing my new Single Six (along with my GP100) for squirrels.

This is my first single-action revolver and now I have my eye on a Blackhawk Convertible in .45 Colt/.45 Auto. I've caught the single-action disease! There's just something about the grip shape, the loading gate and that distinctive "click" of the revolving cylinder. Classic.

Anyway, I'll post a picture of my new gun. I'd recommend the Single Six to anyone looking for a sturdy, durable, and great-shooting .22 pistol. Especially if you'll use it as a backpacking or survival "kit" gun.

Nice looking revolver, love the short barrel.
$339 is a better deal than i can find in my town. The blued ones are going for $375, and in stainless for $421. Those prices are before taxes.

congratulations on your single six.

I've got a hankerin' for a stainless single six
but I'll probably get a stainless Blackhawk first.

Of course the way ammo prices are maybe the single-six would actually be a better idea <grin>.

Sweet! My stainless SS has quickly become one of my favorite range guns. Do you find that the .22WMRs shoot more accurately than the .22LRs? That's the case with my gun.

Congrats...

Single Six revolvers are a lot of fun. At first, I didn't really like how slowly these guns loaded and unloaded, but I'm used to it now. I would probably never buy a centerfire SA revolver, but now I like SA rimfires.

My Single Six Hunter is not the most accurate gun that I own, but I still like it a lot. It is crazy, but I actually shoot my 4" GP100 and my 4" Redhawk better than my .22 single six. Go figure. In my opinion, the Single Six Hunter is one of the best looking guns ever made.

Good buy. The single six is, in my opinion, a "must have" .22, they are so much fun.

I've seen the CAS guys load pretty quickly. For me, it's just a slow, easy relaxing way to shoot. Sort of suits my pace and advancing years.

As slow as the process may seem it still amazes me how fast I can run through a box of ammo. And the Single Six is not about speed anyway. As to the loading part, even with a DA 22lr revolver I load one at a time , just like with the Single Six. Agree the unloading is slower. But If I want something truly fast to unload I shoot the MKII pistol.

It is rare when my Single Six does not make it to the range with me. In fact it is in the car now along with a few others - need to get off this computer.

I have a 6.5" stainless single six with the conversion cyl. Very happy with it. 99% of use is with .22 LR; the .22 magnum rounds are surprisingly loud, and not much cheaper than 9mm! Anyway, the single six is a great gun. It is my wife's favorite.

The trend towards brand new Rugers showing excellent quality control continues. I've heard of VERY few brand new Ruger "lemons" since approximately 2005. It's not easy to track because of old inventory still on shelves so I have no idea when Ruger QC recently improved...but it has.

My solution is to continue to shop used unless it's a model that's just came out, but ALWAYS do "the checkout" regardless, new or used. Remember that even during Ruger's worst QC periods, the number of true "bad monday guns" has always been low so as long as you have "the checkout", there's no serious "danger" in buying used.

What else...OH yeah...in the case of a used gun that's been "well loved" (read: has had the snot shot out of it but in Ruger fashion has just slicked up), I'd consider dropping a new transfer bar in (less than $20, user installable, almost never needs "fitting"). Transfer bars do break at high round counts and when they do the gun is a doorstop.

The Single-Six is waaaaaaaay up on the "Fun Gun" List.

I go back-n-forth among which is the most Fun Gun...the Single-Six, the MKII auto-loader, or the 10/22 rifle.

Sounds like a good price from here. I had a 6 1/2" single six convertible that a guy really wanted and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Within a few days I realized that I missed the SS and bought another; this one a 5 1/2". IMHO the single sixes are as good a .22 SA revolver as you'll find in their price range.
