Hello everyone. I've decided to get a crossbow in the near future. I've never owned one, but I have shot several sporting crossbows in the past. Still, I'm not sure which companies are reputable and produce a decent product for the money. It's going to be a couple months before I take the plunge so I figured I might as well ask you all to share any experience (preferably firsthand) related to anything I might need to know about crossbows.

I'm budgetting around $350 for my first crossbow. I've been looking at a few from Barnett, but if anyone here has any info regarding the subject I would be happy to hear it.

PS - Due to a shoulder injury to my dominant left arm, I cannot utilize a standard bow to its full potential. So please only suggest crossbows and pertinent information related to them. Thanks Everyone, I hope you're all having a great summer.

If you want a really nice crossbow, you'll need to double your budgeted amount.
There are a number of mass produced crossbows that do okay, but to really get a nice, quiet, and reliable setup you need to spend over $500.

I agree with WGS, they seem to start at prices higher than the average compound bow. Also, as a place to start, if you plan to hunt with it, read up on your state's hunting regs regarding crossbows. Some states have some finicky rules for crossbow hunters and the bows they choose.
