Flat Rock Forge

How's the balance on the "awesome goodness"? On the index finger, guard, just in front of the guard or further forward or back?

I’m no knife connoisseur by any stretch, but the selection of wood for scales is absolutely unbelievable. The quality of work on the scales tells me that the blade is probably also quite good.

Makes for a light fast knife as a fighter.
I frequently like my knives to have the balance a bit forward, to transmit a lot of force, while still not being so blade-forward as to be unwieldy. But there is something magical about a fighting knife with the balance at the guard.

I like a neutral balance on a fighter, on the index finger. On a camp/woods knife I tend to move the balance forward.

At or slightly above the first finger would be my choice for a mid-sized fighter ( 4-9" blade). My Camp Defender is more blade forward, but it's a bolo-ish design, so there's a lot more mass than the typical Randall-inspired stabby fighter.

I love the bolo type knife. yours looks very good for the woods.

@Flat Rock, thanks for joining us! It's always great to have another knife guy onboard. You have some very good-looking knives, your prices seem reasonable, and I hope some THR members throw some orders your way. Currently, I have nothing in 80CRV2...hmm.

Thanks! It's great to be here.

Flat Rock - I can see why that Shrew would be popular! Where do I go online to see what you have for sale? Do you make your own sheaths too?

The more I view the Combat Woodsman and the Kipper, the more I like them.

@Flat Rock, here's hoping you stick around. Most of us here love knives and having knife-makers onboard helps keep this forum as one of the best.

Thanks I have loved knives my whole life, too! I appreciate the welcome I have received here!
