Easy question, Is it "tacky" no not tactical:) to put mismatched front and rear back up sights on a really nice AR 15??

My AR came with no sights. I have a couple Mbus rear sights (polymer) and a real nice ARMS rear off other rifles, So I need to get a front sight.

I prefer metal. To get a ARMS brand front is too much money. I could just buy a polymer(plastic) Mbus and be done but think metal would be better.

Soooo that means buying a whole set. I kind like the new Mbus Metal set with the front adjustment know rather that the intents and twist??

So "can" I use the ARMS rear and buy another brand (metal front) or would it be fashion clash.:D

It's your gun. Do what works for you.

The important thing is how well you shoot it.

Ya I know, I just can't be the laughing stock of the range.:D

"Look at that Dillweed his sights don't match"

You have to live with it. If you are a pragmatist and secure in that, get whatever serves the need for the least cost to you. Probably going to be the MagPul polymer flip up front.

If you aren't able to let go of a compulsion to make things appear to match, aside from practical use considerations, then get whatever will help you rest easy and dispense with nagging obsessiveness.

If you actually think anyone else at the range will notice, or will care, that your sights aren't of the same make or materials, and you think they'd bother to or be so petty as to comment -- and if you care at all all that they might do so -- then just buy whichever is the most expensive thing and leave the price tag stickers on it so they know you're a man of true discernment.

Nobody will care except you.
I suspect that like me, this would bother you.

I do have a set of those plastic Magpul sights on one of my ARs and they work just fine. BUT, mine match. I have Magpul front and rear :neener:

On all the rest of my ARs I have KAC sights. But, I seriously shoot those irons a lot. I actually usually remove my optics at the range and shoot irons because that is what I enjoy and in the summer I shoot them a couple times a week. . I went with those plastic sights on a 7 1/2" SBR upper because......it's a 7 1/2" upper. I really don't see myself spending much time shooting irons (plastics) on a 7 1/2" upper. But I have done it. I zeroed the sights and it shot great.

You mean like Minne Pearl and her Hats?? Geese now I need to buy a bigger Dillon Press also! :D;)

I honestly do not care, just joking, besides I usually have the range to myself!

As 444 mentioned I plan on using the "iron" sights on this rifle my others have nice optics, (where I got the rear sights from)

I really would like the ARMS front but it is over $150 for just the front!

I like the plastic Mbus OK enough, guess for now a plastic front will be fine.

My AR's are tools. I use what works. I don't care one tiny little bit what other people think of it's looks. Metal sights will generally hold up to more abuse than polymer and that would be the reason to replace them when you can afford it, not what people think of it's appearance. The Magpul will work fine for now.

I don't consider anything from ARMS "nice". I would get a magpul front and sell the ARMS on craigslist or something.

Rule3- ARMS products are not very well made. I know because the unit I was in bought a lot of them, and they were all disposed of. They use lower quality materials, esp. in the items that use throw lever like scope rings and light mounts. Their rails are horrible. The flip sights have weak springs. On top of all this, the products are way overpriced. Once we realized all of the issues with their products, we started geting our irons from GG&G and our mounts from Larue.

If your worried about that your going to the range for the wrong reason.

run what you brung...

Well OK then, I am not going into combat.:) The rear sight I have seems pretty substantial to me.

Seems ARMS and TROY had a bit of a "disagreement" over patents.

The Magpul Mbus sights are pretty hard to beat for the money. Pretty darn durable too, though that front sight can melt mounted on a gas block. I do wish they locked in the open position though, as brush tends to fold them down. If you dont need folding sights, then Daniel Defense makes the best, affordable fixed sight set on the market. Lightweight and strong.

Magpul now has Pro set, that are metal. They cost about the same as the other "big" names. I think I would like the fact that they have a dial knob for the front sight rather than the intent and turn on the original. Although I do not think the elevation would be adjusted that often, I have scope or optics on my other rifles but would like one with just good iron sights, I like shoot that way anyway. Heck are max distance at the range is 100yards so the high power scopes don't do me much good anyway.

Do you have a railed gas block or a long free float tube? I like the Yankee Hill clamp on gas block with integral flip up sight for the front.

If you have a railed gas block, polymer sights are a no-no as well. I like just about anything that allows for a smaller front sight post myself, the only drawback to the Magpul MBUS as far as that goes. The polymer MBUS is very robust, just not real precise if you are going to use as your only sights for awhile.

Long free float, gas block is under the Troy Rail, so I only need a sight. I had a YH low clamp on gas block with folding front sight on another rifle . YH is good.

Troy makes a "micro" battle sight but I have never seen them so I do not know how small or big they are??

Too many damn sights to try and pick some

I would prefer metal

There's no reason to spend a ton of money on flip-up iron sights when a $40 set will do the job just as well for less money. They're iron sights. It's not rocket science. They're also metal, which is what you want. If you want glow in the dark, you can always go to siteglo.com and order some sight paint that will never come off.

I am as "cheap" as the next guy but what do you really get for $40?? I understand they are not like Optics but are these China sights?:)

What do you get? You get a dual-aperture windage-adjustable rear peep sight and a height-adjustable front post. They're well-constructed and they'll hold up just fine. They're quite beefy.

I would have to see them. I agree, most sights seem to be way overpriced. Like $150 to $200 for a pair?? So when you see something for $40 it is jut natural to wonder??

Like scopes or optics, I think there is a diminishing return, $500 to $600 is enough for me, I do not think I can tell the difference with a $1000 and up scope nor do I need it.

All I can tell you is, they work. And work well. Iron sights are as low-tech as they go, and these are honestly overbuilt.
