I'm thinking about applying for a FL non-resident CCW permit. I currently have a valid AZ CCW. Under their 'Training Documentation' requirements it does not list a valid CCW permit issued by another state as acceptable proof of training.

My question is has anyone used a copy of their home states issued CCW permit as acceptable documentation when applying for a FL non-resident permit? I am particularly interested in anyone from AZ who has gone through this process. Thank you.

I have a non-resident FL permit and live in AR. My AR permit WAS NOT good enough to satisfy that requirement, but the paper documenting that I had taken the AR firearms safety course to get my AR permit was accepted. I also had to sent proof that the course instructor was certified to teach said courses.

I was kind of surprised as to what Florida would accept for training documentation. I am not a vet and I would not think that an honorable discharge paper or a DD214 would attest to someone as qualified to carry a concealed firearm, but they accept both. Nor would I think the same of a hunter safety course certificate which is also accepted. While all may show that you, at one time, may have become familiar with basic firearm safety and handling, it does not show that you would be familiar with the legal and moral uses of firearms in extreme social circumstances. At least most states requirements for a CCW include classroom training in the legal use of deadly force in a situation, whereas the military and hunter safety courses would not normally cover this from a civilian perspective. Go figure.

I used a notarized letter from my IDPA club on club letterhead that said I had competed in matches run by the club, and that they had observed I could safely use a handgun.

FL Out of State Documentation

It varies according to the training requirements of your state.

For example, FL will accept TX CHL training as qualification for a FL license. This is because of the relatively high training requirement in Texas (min 10 hours that includes actual range qualification.)

If give them a call they have always been happy to answer questions.

Florida will only accept a previous CCW license issued by the state of Florida or a county in Florida as proof of firearm training needed to acquire a Florida CCW.

6. Is licensed or has been licensed to carry a firearm in this state or a county or municipality of this state, unless such license has been revoked for cause; or

They accept a DD-214 because most members of the military are given basic firearms training. In Florida, the training is for safe handling of firearms. You are not required to have training about the proper conditions for using deadly force in self defense, although you are held accountable if you do use deadly force.

Fl License Requirements

Florida accepted my Texas Training Certf. as proof of training.
