I have a 1908 Colt 25 ACP with a broken sear spring. I ordered a replacement from Numrich, but take a look at the attached image. The new spring is in the foreground, and the original (obviously broken) spring is in the background. The replacement matches the schematic on the Numrich site, but it does not fit. The original (broken) spring is a dead ringer for the same part in my FN 1905 of the same design. What gives? Are there multiple models of the springs for the Colt? Serial number on the Colt is 124XXX, which I believe equates to 1915 production.

Yes they're are. Up until about 1916 (Sr. #141,000) the grip safety had a lug inside it that put pressure on the sear and trigger bar spring so that it cound put pressure on the sear, trigger bar and grip safety. This spring was identical to your broken one.

Then they changed the spring and made it like the replacement you have, and eliminated the lug inside the grip safety.

I suspect, but can't be sure, that if you remove the second part of the "V" shaped spring at the bottom you will find that the replacement will work in your pistol, but check carefully before you jump. You may have to bend a slight bow in the spring to get the required tension on the sear and trigger bar.

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know. I'll forward the info onwards to the folks at Numrich, who have agreed to scrounge around for the correct spring.
