I recently bought a FN FNX-45. Its my first 45acp after 35 years of gun ownership. I was able to hit the range yesterday, and here is my report.

I shot 90 rounds, each of the 3 magazines, loaded twice. I had no failures of any kind. The pistol performed perfectly. I was surprised how soft the recoil is. After 90 rounds, I had no discomfort in my hands. I have a Bersa Thunder 380 that will beat you up after 90 rounds. The FNX-45 has less felt recoil than a Ruger LCP.

The sights were set perfectly at the 10 yard distance I was shooting. FN says they are set for 20 yards, and I dont doubt that. The sights are easy to see, and the three dot style has always been a favorite of mine. There is just enough of a gap between the front and rear sight to see a reasonable amount of light between the two.

I have the flat backstrap installed, and this feels just about perfect to me as far as grip size. The texture of the grip is very aggressive, but it didnt bother me at all when shooting. I like the grip.

The Double Action trigger is reasonably light, and smooth. The Single Action trigger has some creep, before a short break. The reset is short.

One thing I noticed, that I liked very much, is that the ejected brass was in a nice small area, about 3 feet to the right, and 2-3 feet behind me. It was in a circle about 3 feet in diameter. My Ruger P95 throws brass everywhere to the right and rear, making finding it difficult. I had all 90 empty cartridges picked up quickly.

I was shooting at 10 yards, with my elbows rested, and having fun, not really trying for competition accuracy(which Im not capable of). I was just really seeing what a 45 felt like, and testing function. The pistol is capable of excellent accuracy, as you can see. The first picture is my first shot, then the next is the first full magazine, and then the second full magazine. I stuck my targets onto the target that the last shooter left on the board, so any holes outside of my target areas, were there before.

The FN FNX-45 is an excellent pistol. It ships with 3 magazines which is a really nice touch. It was expensive for my budget, but I certainly feel its worth the money they charge. There are pistols that cost much more, but I cant see how they would be a better value.. I recommend the FNX-45 to anyone looking for a high capacity, external hammer, service size 45.

Awesome! I told you that you were going to love that gun. Congats!

No pix of your new pistol?

Sorry... just a crappy cell phone photo... Below that is FNs rendering which looks MUCH better and is a good representation of how it really looks.
