I've been thinking about getting one of the new high powers. I realize while the operating system is very similar there is no parts compatible between the old and new hi powers. The new one's are just a little bigger in all dimensions. I look at it like it's a evaluation of the hi power. Kinda like a 1911 compared to a 2011. Does anyone have any hand on experience shooting and handling one of the new high powers? Thanks

I've held one in hand at a shop, trigger felt very good and crisp. Felt like about a 4-5 lb single action pull. Has a bit of takeup like the original BHP. Haven't had the opportunity to shoot one yet but I have plans to buy one in stainless this year.

The new FN BHP is a very different gun, styled similarly as the original. You are correct about there being no parts compatibility.
There's also nothing much by the way of aftermarket parts available for them as they haven't really caught on (high price and new crop of clones being the likely cause).
But then again, FN set out to correct the issues that were causing everyone to run out and modify their old BHPs, and from what I hear, they did a pretty good job. These include:

- a good trigger out of the box.
- 17 +1 capacity.
- Ambidexterous controls (think lefties).
- better sights out of the box.
Aside from the obvious magazines. The only parts that are not interchangeable between the two are the Trigger Bow and Mag Release to get around the aforementioned double stack mag.
As for the HP.. I wish they would have updated with Rail, Optic plate, etc. to truly bring it up to date with modern times.

The other important thing FN did with the new one is dramatically improve the pistol's overall strength and longevity. Yes it's a bigger and heavier pistol. It's now also +P rated and will run 50,000+ rounds before any parts failures. Compare that to about 10,000 rounds before an OG Hi-Power would typically need parts replaced.
Without stiffer recoil springs or buffer systems, an OG BHP frame may not even last 30,000 rounds before cracking. The new one's frame I suspect will last well beyond 100,000 rounds in stock configuration before any cracking or significant metal fatigue occurs.

Part of the charm with the Hi-Power, apart from the great ergonomics, is how slim and compact it is for a full sized double stacked pistol in 9mm Luger, but that came with a price... Price, that some of you are obviously not willing to pay, so a newer, stronger and beefier model was introduced. Nothing wrong with that, but do bear in mind that the original HP was /is a perfectly adequate CCW piece, which I carried daily for 15 years up to this day and the newer version will "not fit the bill" except for the colder winter months. But as a range toy it's perfect!
People condemn their immortal souls to hell for eternity for a lot less than that, you know...

The Turks are not copying the new HP.
I have Browning HP's. I would not want any of that stuff on one of those (Happy @Mizar?)

I've got a couple of Girsans. Like them both. My PI is my daily carry.
While I do agree. The HP does have some short comings. None of them are overly difficult or expensive to correct. I have one of the LW FN hi powers that has a pretty good trigger pull even with the mag safety. As far as the sights are concerned. For 200 or 300 hundred bucks you can have good sights installed. I shoot all my hi powers on a regular basis. Just thinking about adding a new version to the accumulation of hi powers.

I'm entirely satisfied with the clean lines and slim size of the original HP, and the Springer clone.
I won't shoot it enough to wear it out, and the two samples here (one Belgian/one Springer) have decent triggers and sights.

I felt the same way . Out of the box a 9 lb gritty creepy trigger . Now it’s 4 . Novak sights and a commander hammer . Easily my best shooting open sight 9mm now .Similar threads
