All,

I have been struggling trying to find another 9mm. I was thinking Glock19, but it really did not feel all that great in my hand. I was looking for something else, so I was considering getting another FN HP with SFS. I regret selling my earlier copy.

So I was flipping through the CDNN catalog looking for their FN page, called them up and requestd there price for the HP w/ SFS ....$496 in 9mm! Now I am really mad at myself, thats $50 more then I paid for my first one, without shipping and transfer fees.

So I was speaking with the salesrep and I asked him if the DA/SA Fullsize HPs have ambi safeties. (Most people will recognize me as the most annoying, overly obsessive lefty shooter here on the THR). The salesrep (Neal) informed me that th DA/SA fullsize have ambi DECOCKERS! For $339 in 9mm only.

Ok, so I needs some education. Why DECOCKER? I imagine it is perfectly safe to carry this gun with a round in chamber and decocked, is that true? Will this gun take preban mags? Has anyone has any issues with this model?

Thank you all in advance....

Axe,
It is perfectly safe to carry with a round in the chamber and decocked. It will function perfectly with 15 round BDM mags, yes they're pricey! The trigger pull is getting better the more I shoot it!

I too am considering the full sized HP DA in 9mm and have some questions.

Does it have a manual safety?

Is the decocker spring loaded?

Does it have a magazine disconnect?

Do the magazines drop free.

Is the trigger pull really as horrible as some have reported.

What kind of finish; is it like the BHP MKIII?

Does it have any hammer bite issues like on the original BHP.

Will original BHP grips fit?

Does anyone have specs for it's width? Both slide and grip width.

How is the construction? Looks like a solid, all steel, both slide and frame gun.

How is the quality, accuracy, and reliability?

ss,
No manual safety
Decocker is spring loaded
No magazine disconnect
Magazines drop free
Trigger pull is heavy, I wouldn't say horrible
Finish appears to be a baked on enamel
No hammer bite issues for me
No parts interchangability with the BHP, it actually has more in common with the BDM
Haven't taken measurements but is very similar to BHP
Contruction is all steel, frame appears to be cast
With 500 + rounds, most being hollow points, no malfuctions of ANY kind
Accuracy is comparable to my other 9mm's
I think it's a quality piece, especially at CDNN's price
I paid $455.00 plus tax for mine and thought I got a deal at the time. I don't think you can go wrong at CDNN's price. If you don't have the 15 round BDM mags already I wouldn't worry. CDNN has 10 round mags for $14.99 each, thats about 6 mags for the price of one 15 rounder.
Hope this is of some help for you.
:D :D

well then that decides that ...

I will probably get the compact da/sa. If the parts and hipo sa mags do not work in the fullsze da/sa, then why? I was looking for a compact anyway. I was trying to justify the fullsize vs compact and it came down to the fact that I could find plenty of hicap mags or the fullsize. But I quess I was wrong.

Compact it is ....

no the new problem .... I just saw SIG 226 9mm LEO trade ins for $350.

I'd go for a SIG over the HP DA.

Now that I've found out the HP DAs don't have a manual safety, then there is nothing that sets it apart from the higher quality DA/SA no manual safety semi-autos out there.
