2007 Gun of the Year (M&P 45)

My .40 version

I recently purchased an FN 5.7, and a FN .45. I'm not new to automatics, I've got several .45's. Everything from Colt Gold Cups, to AMT and Springfield.

The FN is my .45 of choice. I love the double action capability, the high capacity mags, and the recoil seems to be straight back rather than kicking "up". I shot 15 rounds, very quickly, and hit a 12"x12" target at 50' with all 15 rounds. That's very good for me, but the recoil on the FN makes target acquistion very easy. I fired 150 rounds and never had any problems.
The clips have a very strong spring and it's difficult to load them by hand. I purchased a Uplula Universal pistol loader and it makes loading the clips quick and easy.

Installed on my FN .45 is a Viridian x5l laser sight/night light. I was a bit disappointed at my grouping at 75' with the laser system. I can't honestly say whether it was me or the system.... I'd shoot 4 shots or so in a 1.5" group, then throw one 3" out of bullseye. Then the next couple of shots would be in tight with the thrown shot... So either I had mechanical "loosness" in the system, or I was repeating the moves that made the shot pattern change.

In all, the FN is my favorite .45. Fit's my hand well, is not at all uncomfortable (to me) like some of the previous posts suggest. But I personally like a big pistol vs. (for example) my Colt Combat Commander.

I've got a few dozen pistols. If I knew I was going to use one tonight, I'd take the FN .45 without question.
