I have an older Bushnell range finder and got it out Sunday afternoon to check distance where I could see screw heads in my northern neighbor's metal fence using my and a metal build at the far end to find they had become sticky. I was checking out my new Kowa binoculars I just purchased for bird watching.

Out to my little shop I wen and broke out the Hoppe's #9, rubbing alchol, and some rags. First was a scrub to get the stick stuff wet with Hoppe's and then to remove all the rubber with the second scrub. Then it was two scrubbing with alcohol to remove the Hoppe's. Now they are stick free. I also checked the old binoculars I posted about in the original thread and haven't used in years. I remembered them as getting a little sticky sometime after the Hoppe's treatment but found them to be non-sticky now. I may start using them some again, just not for bird watching. They are much too heavy and powerful for more than just a few minutes of that activity.
