Curious about folks who CC. How many of you carry extra mags/loaders VS just carrying a BUG...or both...or neither?
What percentage of the time do you carry which? Primarily interested in civi's like myself, but pros and LEO's feel free to reply too.

I'll go first: - 90% of the time I only carry one (XD-9 or 638) CCW and 95% I don't take extra mags/loaders. Occasionally I do take a BUG out (NAA 32) but I never take extra mags for it. Of course, the 1 month of "Winter" here is a little different, but Texas can get HOT for carrying lots of gear the rest of the year!

It depends....

In wintertime I almost NEED to carry a second gun. If I carry IWB, and put a coat on, how am I supposed to get to my gun if needed? I know, I'll put a revolver in my coat pocket, but now I'm unarmed whenever I take my coat off. The only solution I've been able to come up with is to carry one on my person, and one in my coat... but now i have the problem of having to secure my coat.

Its purely an issue of accessability, and all my troubles would mean nothing if I would just unbotton my coat... but its so darned cold here!

I don't carry reloads. If 5 shots of .38 didn't solve my problems, will more really help? And, if I have time to reload a revolver, shouldn't I use all that free time to run away instead?:neener:

I carry my 9mm and usually one or two mags depending on the clothing I am wearing. Each magazine holds 16 rounds, so with 33 rounds on me as well as two mags, in case of a failure, it should cover most situations I can encounter. If within 33 rounds of 9mm I am SOL, I think it will be time to find a way out or home to get the long gun.

I sometimes change it but in the winter I've carried a BUG and my XD45. I really think that spare mags would be more effective than a BUG for most situations, but then again a spare mag from my xd45 probably weighs a good bit more than my fully loaded P3AT with the laser and all.

I carry a 642 as my bug 100% of the time with a speed loader.

Also carry either a 1911 or Kahr PM9 IWB with a spare mag.

I'd rather reload the primary, because I shoot so much better with the autoloaders, but the BUG is more for a carjacking, or any time I'm sitting, or if I'm on the ground. Point being, if I need to use the 642, it will be shot at 5' or less, so I'm not too worried about accuracy with it.

Three or more, here. Two fullsize pistols, reloads, and a BUG. Only failed to conceal properly once - never again will I try out a new cover shirt in public for the first time!

I carry a primary handgun (either a HK P7 or a Glock 36), one spare magazine for the primary weapon, and a S&W Airweight .38 Special as a BUG. I usually don't carry extra ammo for the BUG, but if I do, its just 5 extra rounds in a speed strip.

Since neither of my primary guns holds a lot of rounds, even with the P7, a spare mag, a loaded BUG, and a speed strip, I still only have 27 rounds.

My BUG is a fixed blade knife. As a regular guy, living a regular life in a regular city, I feel that my primary CCW and a couple of extra mags are sufficient. However, if you feel that more protection is needed based on your lifestyle or location, I would go for it.

No, 16 bang's hopefully will be enough.

Uh, you do realize carrying a BUG isn't about capacity, right? What if your gun goes "click" instead of "bang" on round two...or one? Will you have time to clear a stove pipe malfunction before getting stabbed? What if your primary (and only) gun is taken away from you or your strong side arm is disabled?

Sometimes my BUG IS my primary. Very easy to slip my hand discreetly into my front pocket and have my Kahr PM9 half drawn when walking across a dark parking lot...while carrying either a G19 or Kimber 1911 IWB. In this case, the BUG is MUCH faster to deploy than sweeping a coat, shirt, etc and drawing from IWB. And, if there was not "real threat", I'd have some 'splainin' to do.

What if I carry 3 or more, but just wish to snicker to myself internally? I voted.

P.S. Why do people post this stuff General Discussion? It belongs in Handguns- General.

Just a .380 here (with HP's). Its heavy so if it fails to go bang, I can always use it as a hammer.
